Birmingham City Women are delighted to announce the signing of Canada international defender\u00a0Marie Levasseur, subject to international clearance and WSL approval.<\/p>\n
The 29-year-old defender joins Blues after making 63 appearances across three seasons for\u00a0Montpellier, following previous spells with Fleury, Metz and Finnish side ONS Oulu.<\/p>\n
Levasseur began her senior career in Canada before starring for the University of Memphis. She\u00a0moved to Europe in 2019, enjoying a strong debut season with ONS Oulu before establishing herself\u00a0in France’s Premi\u00e8re Ligue with Metz, Fleury and Montpellier.<\/p>\n
Marie Levasseur has earned 18 senior caps for Canada after progressing through their pathway,\u00a0representing her nation at U17, U20 and U23 level before making her senior debut in 2015.<\/p>\n
Levasseur said: I’ve always wanted to play in the WSL. I think it’s one of the best leagues nowadays on\u00a0the women’s side.<\/p>\n
\u201cI’ve heard about the project that the women’s side are doing and, talking with the coach and the\u00a0staff, I feel like the team identity really speaks to me – fighting, being very team-orientated and that\u00a0spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n
Head Coach Amy Merricks said: \u201cMarie’s mentality really stood out throughout the recruitment\u00a0process. She wanted to challenge herself, she believed in what we’re building and she was excited by\u00a0the opportunity to be part of this next chapter.<\/p>\n
