Aussie travellers<\/a> planning to get a tattoo in Bali<\/a> are being warned to think twice after a tourist was left with an embarrassing typo inked across his chest.<\/p>\n

The man wanted the phrase: “In times of peace, prepare for war.”<\/p>\n

But after an eight-hour tattoo session in Indonesia, he instead walked away with the word “peice” embazoned on his chest.<\/p>\n

Pictures and videos of the cautionary tale started circulating online, with the artist and subject facing both facing ridicule.<\/p>\n

Yahoo Lifestyle contacted the Balinese studio and confirmed the design had been corrected.<\/p>\n

However, award-winning tattoo artist Khail Aitken said this should serve as a serious reminder to Australian travellers getting body art internationally, particularly when the design they want is not in the artist’s native tongue.<\/p>\n

“The client should have double-checked his stencil, being in a country that doesn’t typically speak English,” he told Yahoo Lifestyle.<\/p>\n

“With that being said, it’s the artist’s job to produce the right design for his client.<\/p>\n

“This is what being cheap or careless will cost you.”<\/p>\n

Bali is a well-established tourist hotspot for Australians, with tattoo prices offering a cheaper alternative than back home.<\/p>\n

But Khail warned the adage ” you get what you pay for” applies anywhere in the world.<\/p>\n

The artist said that if you are looking to get a tattoo, price shouldn’t be your only focus, and that serious “research” should be undertaken when choosing a studio and artist.<\/p>\n

“It’s important to look beyond cost and choose a reputable studio with experienced artists, strong reviews and clear hygiene practices,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Lower prices can be appealing, but standards, regulations and aftercare practices range differently between countries.”<\/p>\n

While you might save some cash up front, having to get a typo corrected or covered up can be expensive and painful.<\/p>\n

The peace-piece typo was posted online, and people couldn’t believe that no one spotted the issue until after it had been inked.<\/p>\n

Many were quick to criticise, but it doesn’t appear to be an uncommon issue.<\/p>\n

A Queensland tattoo artist admitted the man’s issue had become a problem for Australian studios.<\/p>\n

“To be honest, I’m getting pretty sick of people asking me to fix Bali stuff-ups. Spend your money wisely, or not be this guy,” he said.<\/p>\n
