Evanescence<\/a>\u2019s Amy Lee says it was \u201cso fun\u201d supporting Metallica<\/a> on the Australia and New Zealand leg of the San Francisco titans\u2019 three-year-long M72 world tour.<\/p>\n

Lee\u2019s Arkansas band played their six shows stadium with Metallica and openers Suicidal Tendencies in November 2025. The singer calls the headliners \u201cso gracious\u201d, even letting her bring her grand piano onstage for the entirety of her five-piece\u2019s hour-long sets.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou never know how it\u2019s going to be coming into somebody else\u2019s world,\u201d Lee tells Loudwire. \u201cIt\u2019s their show and [you give] full-on respect: OK, it\u2019s Metallica, we\u2019ll back off. But also, can we have some good production? What exactly can we get away with?\u201d<\/p>\n

She continues: \u201cAnd they ended up being so cool. They let me put our grand piano out on the snake pit thing, so it could just live there and I could go for the couple of moments that I spend at the piano, just surrounded by the crowd.\u201d<\/p>\n

The singer also reflects on bringing her then-11-year-old son onto the tour, and watching Metallica with him at the end of each night.<\/p>\n

\u201c[He was] the perfect age to fall in love with metal,\u201d she says. \u201cSo, him getting to experience that in the stadium, rain gently starts falling during Nothing Else Matters<\/a>, just watching his mind go like, \u2018I\u2019m in!\u2019 It was such a good, good thing for my heart, and just took me back to being that age and falling in love with music.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 2025 shows marked Evanescence\u2019s first time supporting Metallica, as well as their first time playing in stadiums. Talking to Minnesota radio station 93X last August, Lee said that she wasn\u2019t \u201cscared at all\u201d ahead of the tour.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a lot of bands, so we\u2019re not responsible for carrying more than like our portion of the weight and [these will be] Metallica shows, so fans are gonna be stoked,\u201d she explained (via Arrow Lords Of Metal<\/a>).<\/p>\n

\u201cBut at the same time, I know how those fans can be. I\u2019ve been in this game for a while. I know what it is. I know what I\u2019ve gotta bring. I know what not to play. So, we\u2019re just gonna bring it and have a blast.\u201d<\/p>\n

Metallica have a reputation for going above and beyond to make their support acts feel welcome. Ahead of the November 1 show on the Australian tour, the band presented Lee with a M72-inspired cake.<\/p>\n

Similarly, talking to Hammer last year, Mammoth singer\/multi-instrumentalist Wolfgang Van Halen revealed that he was given a \u2018Perfect Attendance Award\u2019<\/a> for supporting them at every venue on the M72 tour\u2019s 2023 and \u201924 legs.<\/p>\n

\u201cOpening for Metallica was unlike anything I\u2019ve ever been a part of,\u201d Van Halen said. \u201cIt was really, really crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Metallica recently ended the M72 run with a summer European leg, supported by Gojira<\/a>, Knocked Loose, Pantera and Avatar. The band posted tributes to each of the four openers via social media earlier this week. Avatar responded in a statement to Loudwire<\/a>, calling the shows \u201csomething we will always be grateful for\u201d.<\/p>\n

The M72 tour may have ended, but Metallica won\u2019t be away from the stage for long. In October, they\u2019ll return for a residency at Las Vegas multimedia venue The Sphere. They\u2019ll be the first metal band to play the space, which has previously hosted U2<\/a>, the Eagles, the Backstreet Boys and more.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Evanescence released their new album, Sanctuary<\/a>, last month. Their breakthrough hit, 2003 single Bring Me To Life, has just been certified Diamond<\/a> by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).<\/p>\n
