A Sydney pub has caused local outrage over a decision to charge for chicken salt at the cost of $5 for non-members and $3 for members. <\/p>\n

The Prince Hotel in Kirrawee in Sydney\u2019s south recently opened an 18+ extension to their regular pub called Social House, with the branch\u2019s new menu charging an extra cost for chicken salt. <\/p>\n

The menu caused disbelief among locals, who shared the menu to local Facebook page, Everything Sutherland Shire. <\/p>\n

Social House also charges for tartare sauce for the same cost. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis must be AI,\u201d one disbelieving Facebook user said. <\/p>\n

\u201cAll condiments should be complimentary as part of a meal choice I think,\u201d another user said. <\/p>\n

The backlash has been so intense that some users are tagging the venue directly, desperate to hear that the claim is nothing more than a silly joke. <\/p>\n

Laura Nicole recalled her own \u201cinsane\u201d experience to news.com.au, admitting she initially mistook the price for a typo. <\/p>\n

When she asked her server for clarification, they could only nod and laugh about it. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an insane amount of money to pay,\u201d she said. \u201cYes, it was yum but $5 for salt is insane.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think that the norm to pay for a regular side, let alone flavoured salt\u201d<\/p>\n

Charging for chicken salt \u2018unAustralian\u2019<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not the first time businesses have put a price tag on the Aussie-loved seasoning. <\/p>\n

In October last year, another cafe in Port Stephens was branded \u201cunAustralian\u201d <\/a>for charging an extra fee to salt hot chips. <\/p>\n

Diners at Oakvale Wildlife Park were left stunned after being slapped with a 50c fee for a seasoning they insisted should be free.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m shaken to my core just hearing about this second hand,\u201d a user on Reddit had said.<\/p>\n

The popular condiment has become the latest battleground in Sydney\u2019s cost-of-living crisis. The most basic meal additions are now coming with a coffee-sized price tag. It seems even a dash of salt is a luxury many simply can\u2019t afford.<\/p>\n

The Prince Hotel was contacted for comment. <\/p>\n
