NRL<\/a> fans have been left devastated for Melbourne Storm winger<\/a> Will Warbrick with the club confirming he has played his last game for them after a ruptured Achilles tendon. A depleted Storm side put up a tough fight against the Roosters in Sydney on Friday, but went down 14-6 after some controversial calls.<\/p>\n

However, the game was marred after winger Warbrick went down without contact in the first-half. Billy Smith went over for Roosters in the corner in the 25th minute, but as Warbrick went to push off to turn he fell down.<\/p>\n

The winger was in pain as he clutched at his calf. Unfortunately, Warbrick left the field clearly devastated knowing this was likely his last game for the club.<\/p>\n

Warbrick has played 73 games for the Storm since his move from rugby union in 2022. He has scored 52 tries and has become a popular player at the Storm. Although the winger is off to the Warriors next season.<\/p>\n

And on Saturday afternoon, the Storm confirmed Warbrick ruptured his Achilles tendon and is facing up to eight months out from footy. ‘NRL Physio’ Brien Seeney claimed Achilles injuries can see players return after five months, but can extend to eight. This is the second Storm player to end their season with an Achilles injury.<\/p>\n

Fellow winger Xavier Coates<\/a> suffered a similar setback in training as he was coming back from a partial tear. Fans were quick to rally around Warbrick who was visibly devastated when leaving the field.<\/p>\n

Melbourne Storm injury toll grows<\/p>\n

Craig Bellamy admitted it was tough seeing Warbrick leave the field knowing it was likely the last game he played for the club. “It’s just a shame for Will to end his career with us on that note. He’s been tremendous for us,” Bellamy said in the press conference.<\/p>\n

Warbrick will now likely miss the World Cup for New Zealand as he recovers from the Achilles injury. The Storm were already depleted heading into the final rounds as they made a late push for finals footy.<\/p>\n

Warbrick joins the likes of Jahrome Hughes and Cameron Munster on the sidelines. Hughes is dealing with a hamstring issue, which ruled him out of the game.<\/p>\n

Munster was set to have surgery on his knee after playing through State of Origin with the issue. He will miss between four to six weeks. Bellamy was proud of his players hanging in there against a strong Roosters outfit.<\/p>\n

“We’re just going to take it week by week,” Bellamy said “Whatever will be, will be. As long as we’re out there competing like we did today, we’re a chance of doing something.”<\/p>\n
