Josh Fraser defended star forward Harry McKay after a knee knock sidelined him early in Carlton\u2019s 21-point loss to Collingwood<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe couldn\u2019t come back onto the field,\u201d said Fraser.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe information we got, he wasn\u2019t okay to continue, so we\u2019ll get a scan on him and assess him early in the week.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u200aThose ones can sometimes look worse than what they appear.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u200aI can\u2019t right now shed any more light on Harry\u2019s situation other than he couldn\u2019t come back onto the field.\u201d<\/p>\n

McKay was sorely missed not only forward of the ball, but also in the ruck, and his absence put further pressure on the struggling Brodie Kemp.<\/p>\n

Kemp\u2019s woes from recent weeks compounded, as he contributed just one goal.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s working hard on it,\u201d said Fraser of Kemp\u2019s goal kicking.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes with goal kicking you can maybe work too hard.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u200aWe\u2019ll have a considered approach of what he\u2019s doing and what his method looks like, and we\u2019ll keep giving him some positive reinforcement around that.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u200aThat\u2019s something we need to take a look at and support him with.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the loss of McKay proved to be game-shaping – and even season-defining in many ways – Carlton\u2019s inefficiency inside 50 is not an issue that is either new or simple.<\/p>\n

\u200a\u201cOur method looked poor I thought,\u201d said Fraser.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t think we won enough contests in front of the ball.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u200aWe are not scoring or capitalising on that [strong] transition anywhere near efficiently enough.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s personnel, it\u2019s structure, it\u2019s patterning, it\u2019s decision with the ball and then when you don\u2019t connect. <\/p>\n
