Andy Flower confirmed he is not interested in a return to guiding England<\/a>.<\/p>\nThe former Zimbabwe wicketkeeper batter will instead stay in charge of back-to-back IPL champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lord\u2019s-based Hundred franchise the London Spirit.<\/p>\n
The Telegraph reported that Langer is on the shortlist of candidates with a widespread belief within English cricket that its Bazballers could benefit from the 105-Test batter\u2019s hard-nosed approach.<\/p>\n
Lehmann believes his old teammate would be a good fit.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf Langer were to go for it, he\u2019d be a really good coach,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhoever takes it on, they\u2019ve got some really talented players. I see some good players in the county system.\u201d<\/p>\n
Former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming and ex-England tweaker Richard Dawson are also considered to be among the front runners.<\/p>\n
Fleming stepped down as coach of the IPL\u2019S Chennai Super Kings last week and has said that he will \u201c100% give it some consideration\u201d if approached by the ECB.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Kevin Pietersen and Matt Prior have taken to social media to advocate for one of their fellow South African born, Ashes winning England teammates to get the nod.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow Flower isn\u2019t available I\u2019d have (Jonathan) Trott,\u201d ex-wicketkeeper batter Prior wrote. \u201cReally like the idea of Langer (he would certainly sort the mentality side of things) but would be nice to have one of our own coaching the England team.<\/p>\n
\u201cTrott knows how to win in Australia, India & what it takes to be #1 in Test cricket.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pietersen simply listed six of Trott\u2019s characteristics, including \u201cgreat cricket brain\u201d before saying \u201chopefully he\u2019s a front runner for England red ball team\u201d.<\/p>\n
Trott is currently working with Ireland as a consult on a short-term deal after his four year stint as Afghanistan head coach ended in February.<\/p>\n
In that time, Trott oversaw an impressive ODI World Cup campaign in India in 2023 where Afghanistan won four of their nine group games to finish sixth on the table.<\/p>\n
They defeated England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Netherlands, and had Australia on the ropes before Glenn Maxwell\u2019s freakish double century saved the day for the world champions.<\/p>\n
The following year, Trott took them to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the United States.<\/p>\n

They eventually fell to South Africa in the semi-finals.<\/p>\n
