Australian actor and former Neighbours star Terence Donovan has died aged 90.<\/p>\n
Donovan\u2019s son Jason \u2013 who was played half of the iconic Neighbours\u2019 couple Scott and Charlene in the 1980s \u2013 announced his father\u2019s death on Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is with great sadness but also a sense of celebration of a long full life that myself and my brother Paul announce our father Terence died peacefully last night here in Melbourne,\u201d he wrote on social media.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur dad was a huge character, larger than life.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was our best friend \u2026 our world! <\/p>\n
\u201cWe will desperately miss him but we take comfort knowing we were all here by his side in his final days.\u201d<\/p>\n
Donovan was born in London in 1935 and moved to Australia with his family when he was 14 before becoming a star of the stage and screen.<\/p>\n
His big break came when he was offered the part of Detective Mick Peters on Division 4, on which he starred from 1969 to 1975.<\/p>\n
He starred in Aussie classics Break Morant and The Man from Snowy River.<\/p>\n
He had roles on Prisoner, Sons and Daughters, A Country Practice and The Flying Doctors and starred on Home and Away as Al Simpson.<\/p>\n
From 1990 to 1994 he was a part of the main cast of Neighbours as Doug Willis.<\/p>\n
On Terence\u2019s 90th birthday last year, Jason posted a tribute to his father on social media, calling him his \u201chero\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019ve always placed me higher than you,\u201d Jason said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlways wanted me to do better than you.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t think of any other that has wanted me to succeed both professionally and personally \u2026<\/p>\n
