\n\t\u201cPrincess Diaries 3<\/a>\u201d recently had a breakthrough after a scrapped script, Anne Hathaway<\/a> revealed during an appearance on SiriusXM\u2019s \u201cRadio Andy.\u201d<\/a> <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m busy making baby number three, and that has sort of taken the place of knowing when exactly I can make\u00a0\u2018Princess Diaries 3,\u2019\u201d Hathaway said.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI can say I think we had a story breakthrough,\u201d she added. \u201cI think we are moving in the right direction. The script that we were working on \u2014 we kind of had to start over with this new direction, which is not the update I think anybody wants, but we all feel really good that this is gonna be the one.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe continuation of \u201cThe Princess Diaries\u201d series has been in production since 2022. Adele Lim (\u201cCrazy Rich Asians,\u201d \u201cRaya and the Last Dragon\u201d) signed on to direct in 2024.<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe just want to make the story right because it is a franchise that is so beloved by so many people,\u201d Lim told Variety<\/a> at the Gold Gala carpet in May.<\/p>\n

\n\tHathaway will reprise her role as Mia Thermopolis, now Queen of Genovia, in the threequel. Lim teased that fans of the original movies can expect \u201ca lot of fun returns\u201d from other cast members.<\/p>\n

\n\tLim said in May that the shooting and production schedule were still being worked out, and a release date has yet to be announced.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Princess Diaries\u201d was released in 2001 and was followed by the 2004 sequel, \u201cThe Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.\u201d The two films have earned a combined $300 million worldwide.<\/p>\n
