Tim Tszyu\u2019s wife has questioned why no one ever took accountability for her husband\u2019s bloody world title loss against Sebastian Fundora in 2024, revealing: \u201cTim could\u2019ve died \u2026 he almost went into cardiac arrest\u201d.<\/p>\n

The revelation comes as Alexandra Tszyu has also opened up on the emotional phone call her husband made, only months ago, from training camp in the United States to say he was retiring from the sport.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Alexandra even weighed in on her husband\u2019s decision to dump not one, but two coaches for Australian boxing great Jeff Fenech \u2013 while also recounting the night she watched a bloodied Tim stand, bawling, in a dressing room shower and thought \u201cthis is f***ed\u201d.<\/p>\n

As part of Tszyu\u2019s hyped build towards this Sunday\u2019s Errol Spence Jnr blockbuster, the former champ has unveiled a powerful YouTube documentary <\/a>explaining, in detail, his rollercoaster run since first winning gold.<\/p>\n

In the latest episode, which was released overnight night<\/a>, Alexandra revealed how only months back her husband phoned from inside camp in Miami, Florida to say he was going to make a shock retirement from the sport.<\/p>\n

At the time, Tszyu was training with famed Cuban coach Pedro Diaz.<\/p>\n

A decision that came amid an incredibly chaotic two years which included not only dropping three title fights against Fundora and Bakhram Murtazaliev, but also splitting from his longtime coach Igor Goloubev and manager Glen Jennings.<\/p>\n

That decision also had family ramifications, given younger brother Nikita still has both men steering his own undefeated career.<\/p>\n

So desperate to find a fresh start last September, Tszyu started working out of Miami with Diaz, only to then find himself adding homesickness to a growing list of dramas. <\/p>\n

Recalling her phone call during Tszyu\u2019s time with Diaz, Alexandra said: \u201cTim called me while he was in camp in Miami and said \u2018that\u2019s it, I\u2019m retiring\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was thinking \u2018retiring? Why are you retiring? Are you crazy? I know things aren\u2019t great at the moment but we\u2019ll get through it.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd he said \u2018I can\u2019t deal with a problem every day\u2019. There were so many things that were happening that weren\u2019t being handled correctly, unfortunately. And those are the negative consequences it can have on an athlete.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had to make sure that it wouldn\u2019t happen again. And by that some people would no longer work \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Alexandra also recounted the scenes in Tszyu\u2019s dressing room after his contentious first title loss to Fundora, which afterwards saw his corner heavily criticised for allowing him to fight on with a serious head cut.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember in the dressing room after, he was just bawling his eyes out in the shower,\u201d she said. \u201cHe had blood gushing down and I remember thinking this is f***ed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alexandra also commented on that same night at the end of episode one, saying: \u201cNo one really took responsibility for the outcome of Fundora one.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, Tim could\u2019ve died. He almost went into cardiac arrest. They went through 55 towels [due to] blood. He had blood gushing down him and I\u2019m thinking this is f***ed.\u201d<\/p>\n

While speaking himself on those consecutive losses against Fundora and Murtazaliev, Tszyu also recounted how tough things got. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I was in hospital there were only two people, my wife and [chef] Omar,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen things are great, you should see the dressing room then. My phone is going off, getting thousands and thousands of notifications. There are people in my dressing room I don\u2019t even know.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut when you lose? You look at exactly who is there. And it\u2019s not many. And the phone, it\u2019s not going off \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Alexandra also revealed how after the second title loss to Murtazaliev, which saw him brutally stopped and younger brother Nikita throw in the towel, Tszyu\u2019s team had discussed with him the idea of retiring.<\/p>\n

Close friend and chef Omar Ifred also gave an insight into the fallout that came with losing consecutive title fights.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe amount of criticism he copped was unbelievable,\u201d Ifred said of Tszyu. \u201cUnbelievable. [People saying] he can\u2019t box, he can\u2019t do this one, he can\u2019t do that one. You know how it is.\u201d<\/p>\n

As part of the documentary, Tszyu also shed light on his second fight with Fundora, over which plenty of questions existed in the aftermath following his decision to retire on the stool.<\/p>\n

Explaining how the decision came about, Tszyu said: \u201cFundora hit me with a shot where I felt \u2026 [exhaling heavily] completely out of it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember coach repeating a couple of times \u2018Tim you alright? You ready to go, you ready to go?\u2019. I couldn\u2019t even answer.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople think I quit and all this bulls***. But I was just completely out of it. I\u2019ve never felt anything like that before.\u201d<\/p>\n

At one point in the piece, Tszyu also took a dig at longtime rival Michael Zerafa, who back in January was forced out of an all-Australian blockbuster with Nikita after saying early in the third that he couldn\u2019t continue due to an eye cut.<\/p>\n

Zerafa told a ringside physician \u2018I can\u2019t see\u2019.<\/p>\n

Recounting his first bloody first Fundora fight in the documentary, Tszyu says: \u201cBlood on my face, I would never say I can\u2019t see. I will always say I\u2019m ready. That\u2019s the warrior inside of me \u2026\u201d <\/p>\n

And as for Spence?<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s been off for three years, so he has got a lot to prove,\u201d Tszyu said. \u201cIn three years, a lot of new faces arrive, including myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then, finally: \u201cI will be victorious. This is my future.
