{"id":812656,"date":"2026-07-20T17:27:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-20T17:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/812656\/"},"modified":"2026-07-20T17:27:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-20T17:27:09","slug":"canadiens-officially-hire-derek-lalonde-as-associate-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/812656\/","title":{"rendered":"Canadiens officially hire Derek Lalonde as associate coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MONTREAL \u2014 The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/hockey\/nhl\/teams\/montreal-canadiens\/\" class=\"sn-team-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-team=\"montreal-canadiens\" data-league=\"nhl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Montreal Canadiens<\/a> have hired Derek Lalonde as an associate coach, the team announced Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The 53-year-old spent last season as an assistant with the Toronto Maple Leafs after serving as head coach of the Detroit Red Wings from 2022-24.<\/p>\n<p>Lalonde was previously an assistant with the Tampa Bay Lightning, helping the club win back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021.<\/p>\n<p>He has more than 20 years of coaching experience, including stops in the American Hockey League, ECHL and USHL.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadiens reached the Eastern Conference final last season before losing to the Carolina Hurricanes in five games.<\/p>\n<p>Montreal opens the 2026-27 regular season Sept. 29 against the Maple Leafs in Toronto.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"MONTREAL \u2014 The Montreal Canadiens have hired Derek Lalonde as an associate coach, the team announced Monday.
