more.<\/p>\n<p>AAA<\/p>\n<p>If his social media pages are anything to go by, Queensland\u2019s education minister loves taking selfies.<\/p>\n<p>Now one has leapt off the screen, becoming the unlikely inspiration for a painting that young artist Angel Sadik hopes will soon appear in a Brisbane gallery.<\/p>\n<p>Dubbed The man behind the title, the circular painting of Education and Arts Minister John-Paul Langbroek has been entered in the <a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/brisbaneportraitprize.org\/2026-prize\/next-gen-prize\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Brisbane Portrait Prize\u2019s Next Gen category<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Angel Sadik\u2019s portrait of Education and Arts Minister John-Paul Langbroek, dubbed class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.brisbanetimes.com.au\/national\/queensland\/how-brisbane-s-20-biggest-high-schools-performed-in-national-tests-20251203-p5nkfe.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Corinda State High School<\/a>, said she selected the selfie snapshot as an homage to the minister.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe does this thing wherever he is \u2026 a 0.5x or whatever it is,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Sadik is referring to the fish-eye-style selfie created by placing a phone camera on a 0.5x zoom setting \u2013 allowing more of the photographer\u2019s surroundings to appear in the picture \u2013 which can frequently be seen on the long-standing Queensland MP\u2019s social accounts.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" people, from students to community figures and <a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/JohnPaulLangbroekMP\/posts\/pfbid0svxMirwTCrhczX9WvYFG5xVzQYwUbKdU9sJT61SwDrPSmnseUsAsh8o57sFkvhzLl\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">federal parliamentarians<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just a nice way of bringing people together &#8230; it\u2019s like an inclusive signature move,\u201d Sadik said.<\/p>\n<p>Rendered in oil paints on sanded plywood, the portrait was a study on image, Sadik said.<\/p>\n<p>However, she said the viewer decided exactly whose image that was.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Angel Sadik\u2019s represent how the outer society views him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can view it in this perspective \u2026 [that] you\u2019re looking outwards at him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The second camera is the phone itself. \u201cThat\u2019s more of a self representation, the way he views himself,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s just to do with how you view him as a person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Related Article<a 17-year-old said she first considered Langbroek as a possible portrait subject when he visited her school in late October last year \u2013 stopping to take <a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=1235069511761043&amp;set=pb.100057740184596.-2207520000&amp;type=3\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">a few 0.5x ministerial selfies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The minister had called a press conference at the school, watched by the then incoming school vice captain Sadik and other members of Corinda\u2019s student leadership team.<\/p>\n<p>Sadik said she was struck by the minister\u2019s comfort in front of multiple news cameras, particularly when fielding questions about the state\u2019s \u201c<a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.brisbanetimes.com.au\/national\/queensland\/teachers-asked-to-vote-on-state-s-best-and-final-offer-20251027-p5n5ko.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">best and final<\/a>\u201d pay offer, made to teachers that morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was just so composed and that really influenced me a lot \u2026 I wanted to represent him in a lens that really shows the man behind the camera,\u201d Sadik said.<\/p>\n<p>When the minister again visited the school in February this year to sit for the portrait, she said she uncovered his her art teacher, Pam Leech (left).Morgan Roberts<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to this masthead in February, Langbroek said he had been flattered by the offer, and felt it suited his ministerial portfolios of arts and education.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m interested to hear how Angel\u2019s going to portray me, given that she doesn\u2019t do what we\u2019d call traditional works of art,\u201d the minister said.<\/p>\n<p>Sadik\u2019s past entries, in <a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/brisbaneportraitprize.org\/2024-next-gen\/see-me-now-tandiwoneni-by-angel-sadik-2\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">year 10<\/a> and 11, included mixed media self-portraits using photography, acrylic paint and <a class=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/brisbaneportraitprize.org\/2025-next-gen\/obscure-by-angel-sadik\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">her own hair<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>She said her art teacher, Pam Leech, along with friends and family, had been huge supports as she created the piece.<\/p>\n<p>The Brisbane Portrait Prize will announce finalists for the main and Next Gen prizes on September 5
