{"id":813397,"date":"2026-07-21T01:57:17","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T01:57:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/813397\/"},"modified":"2026-07-21T01:57:17","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T01:57:17","slug":"jb-eateries-keep-food-prices-steady","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/813397\/","title":{"rendered":"JB eateries keep food prices steady"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some restaurants report seeing more diners now compared to early months of Middle East crisis<\/p>\n<p>EATERIES in Johor Baru have been able to maintain food prices in recent months, as the cost of cooking ingredients have stabilised despite the ongoing Middle East conflict.<\/p>\n<p>Johor Indian Muslim Entre\u00adpreneurs Association (Perusim) secretary Hussien Ibrahim said operators initially took a wait-and-see approach when the conflict erupted on Feb 28.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe association\u2019s Indian-Muslim restaurant operators agreed unanimously to maintain their prices,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Hussien however, warned that operators would be heavily impacted if global oil prices continued to rise.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hussien says local consumers are highly price sensitive and increasingly pragmatic.\" src=\"https:\/\/apicms.thestar.com.my\/uploads\/images\/2026\/07\/21\/4020579.jpg\" onerror=\"this.src=\" https:=\"\" style=\"width: 350px; height: 420px;\"\/>Hussien says local consumers are highly price sensitive and increasingly pragmatic.<\/p>\n<p>He added that Malaysian consu\u00admers were highly price sensitive and increasingly pragmatic, dri\u00adven by prolonged cost-of-living pressures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut most of them are understanding and may accept a minimal hike in prices of food items,\u201d said Hussien.<\/p>\n<p>He said mamak restaurants reported seeing more diners now, especially families, compared to the slower period between March and April.<\/p>\n<p>To pull in customers, Hussein said some eateries had begun serving budget breakfast and lunch sets during the third and fourth weeks of the month.<\/p>\n<p>He said a breakfast of two pieces of roti canai plus a glass of teh tarik or teh O, was offered at RM3.50 to RM5.<\/p>\n<p>A set lunch of plain rice, a chicken dish, vegetables, a hard-boiled egg and a drink goes for RM10.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Ravindran says distributors are the ones who determine the prices of ingredients, not food operators.\" src=\"https:\/\/apicms.thestar.com.my\/uploads\/images\/2026\/07\/21\/4020580.jpg\" onerror=\"this.src=\" https:=\"\" style=\"width: 350px; height: 466px;\"\/>Ravindran says distributors are the ones who determine the prices of ingredients, not food operators.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Johor Indian Petty Traders and Small Business Association (Jipta) chairman D.
