The Athletics outrighted first baseman\u00a0Joey Meneses<\/a>, according to the MLB.com transaction log<\/a>. They had designated him for assignment over the weekend. Meneses has a previous career outright, which means he can decline the assignment in favor of free agency.<\/p>\n

Meneses signed an offseason minor league deal and was selected onto the MLB roster in June. He was up and down from Triple-A Las Vegas a couple times after that, ultimately appearing in nine big league games. He went 3-20 with three walks in 25 trips to the dish. That was Meneses\u2019 first MLB work since 2024, as he spent the \u201925 season in Triple-A with the Mets. He\u2019d played parts of three big league campaigns with the Nationals from 2022-24, struggling in the latter two seasons after an out of nowhere huge half season as a 30-year-old rookie.<\/p>\n

Now 34, Meneses is having a nice season in Triple-A. He has 12 longballs with a .346\/.396\/.546 slash line across 331 plate appearances with Las Vegas. Although Meneses doesn\u2019t walk much or have huge power for a first baseman, he has excellent contact skills and generally hits for high averages in the minors.<\/p>\n

The A\u2019s are getting a look at rookie infielder\u00a0Tommy White<\/a> at first base. They\u2019re without\u00a0Nick Kurtz<\/a> due to a thumb sprain, though that\u2019s expected to be a minor absence.
