If reading books by Irish authors<\/a> has taught me anything, it\u2019s that there\u2019s a lot of gloom over there. That is a people who have suffered for generations from famine, violence, and a lot of overcast weather. This is to say, if a bunch of Irish people are telling you that you look sad, you might take it to heart. Rosie O\u2019Donnell did, and she remedied the situation by getting a deep-plane face-lift<\/a>.<\/p>\n O\u2019Donnell got her face-lift in January \u2014 you can read all about it in poem form<\/a> on her Substack \u2014 after losing 50 pounds. The comedian, who moved to Ireland after Donald Trump\u2019s inauguration last year, has been opening up in various interviews about all the factors that led to her deep-plane journey. In a new People<\/a> interview, she added yet another reason: Irish people kept noticing how her weight loss changed her face.<\/p>\n \u201cI lost so much weight that I had a lot of excess skin here,\u201d O\u2019Donnell told the tabloid, pointing to her chin. \u201cIt made me look sad. People in Ireland said, \u2018Rosie, are you all right, love?\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018It\u2019s my face. I actually feel happy here.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Those exchanges prompted her to start thinking about getting work done, which, as we know, turned into an internal battle. \u201cI had to wrestle with myself because as a feminist I always felt this is the male gaze and not anything I believe in,\u201d O\u2019Donnell said. Her 13-year-old, Clay, asked her, \u201cMommy, girls look up to you. What does your legacy stand for if you do this?\u201d In the end, she decided she would get the face-lift in a feminist way.<\/p>\n \u201cI changed my mind for six months and then decided the real power of feminism [is] to decide what we want to do with our bodies and when,\u201d O\u2019Donnell said. According to her, Clay still hasn\u2019t noticed the change.
