Australian singer Kate Ceberano said she \u201cnearly threw up\u201d after seeing an AI-generated image of her and late actor Sam Neil. <\/p>\n
The Pash Me singer took to social media to share an artificially generated image of herself in tears, holding a phone with a picture hugging the late New Zealand actor.<\/p>\n
The image caption claimed it was the friends\u2019 \u201cfinal photo\u201d. <\/p>\n
\u201cKate Ceberano mourned her dead friend Sam Neill by sharing their final photo together from his last public appearance at the Sydney Awards,\u201d the caption read. <\/p>\n
Neill died from pneumonia on July 13 at the age of 78, three weeks after confirming he was cancer-free. <\/p>\n
In 2022, the late New Zealand actor was diagnosed with stage 3 angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a rare form of blood cancer.<\/p>\n
Online, Ceberano said the artificially generated image made her \u201cspeechless\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat the actual \u2026!!!!!\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy first interaction with an AI version of myself. I nearly threw up.\u201d <\/p>\n
Ceberano said while she appreciated the kind comments that were written beneath the fabricated post, commenters had been \u201ctricked\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel sorry to the good people who wrote meaningful comments to this specious post,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
\u201cYou were tricked and I kinda think this is just the beginning. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m speechless!!!!!!\u201d<\/p>\n
The AI-generated image was shared by Golden Era Hollywood, a Facebook page with more than 330,000 followers.<\/p>\n
The popular Facebook group often shares AI-generated images of celebrities crying, holding gifts from fans or pictures of other people in the industry. <\/p>\n
Ceberano wasn\u2019t the only Australian to feature in the AI-generated images mourning the New Zealand actor. <\/p>\n
A teary-eyed Nicole Kidman was generated holding a picture frame of a photo of herself and Neill from their 1989 thriller Dead Calm. <\/p>\n
\u201cNicole Kidman honoured Sam Neill as her \u2018friend for life\u2019 remembering how he took her under his wing when she was just 18,\u201d the caption read. <\/p>\n
An AI-generated image of ABC journalist Laura Tingle, who was in a relationship with Neill between 2018 and 2021, also appeared on the Facebook page with tears staining her cheeks. <\/p>\n
