The fact that the rain is continuing over a few days has the BOM wary, with flood watch warnings in place for parts of New South Wales.<\/p>\n
“We’re not expecting massively high rainfall totals necessarily, although some areas will see some higher falls,” Ms Bradbury said.<\/p>\n
“It’s more about the fact this will be multiple days in a row, on top of soil that’s already quite wet.”<\/p>\n
What’s the forecast for Sydney?<\/p>\n

However, there’s still a slight chance of a shower in the afternoon.<\/p>\n People in Brisbane may want to put off hanging washing on the line for a few more days, with a medium chance of showers on Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n There’s only a slight chance of showers in Brisbane on Monday.<\/p>\n Severe storm action in the west<\/p>\n A cold front pushed a band of thunderstorms through the bottom corner of Western Australia yesterday, prompting the BOM to put out a warning for damaging winds and heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n And another round is coming today.<\/p>\n This morning, the BOM put out a severe thunderstorm warning for the Gascoyne and Central West districts, forecasting heavy rainfall in those areas.<\/p>\n And a large chunk of the state is set to cop a drenching today, with the BOM forecasting thunderstorms and showers from south of Coral Bay all the way across to Isaelite Bay.<\/p>\n Most of the state can also expect a rather windy one today.<\/p>\n The BOM estimated that \u2014 taking into account yesterday’s rain and whatever happens tomorrow \u2014 areas around Perth, Bunbury and Geraldton could get about 50mm over the three days<\/a>.<\/p>\n A map showing projected rainfall totals for parts of Western Australia from August 19 to 21. (YouTube: BOM)<\/p>\n And it looks like there’s more storm activity on the way for the weekend.<\/p>\n “Late in the weekend, yet another front coming to the west, that’s really going to help bolster [rainfall] totals in WA’s south west, some really decent falls there.”<\/p>\n What’s the forecast for Perth?<\/p>\n Here’s a look at Perth’s possible rainfall forecast<\/a> for the next few days:<\/p>\n Today: Between 7mm and 25mmTomorrow: Between 0mm and 1mmFriday: Between 0mm and 1mmSaturday: Between 0mm and 4mmSunday: Between 6 to 25mmMonday: Between 1mm and 15mm<\/p>\n That could mean as much as 90mm over the three days.<\/p>\n Is this normal for this time of year?<\/p>\n It’s been wetter than usual for both Perth and Sydney.<\/p>\n This year Perth had wetter-than-average rainfall totals in the winter months for the first time since 1996.<\/p>\n That includes August \u2014 even though we haven’t even reached the end of the month yet.<\/p>\n It tipped over the August average yesterday<\/a> during Perth’s downpour.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Sydney has had its wettest August in 27 years.<\/p>\n And while many people assume winter means rain, that’s actually not the case in parts of New South Wales at this time of the year.<\/p>\n “Late winter is normally one of the driest times of year for Sydney and the NSW coast,” ABC meteorologist Tom Saunders said<\/a>.<\/p>\n “However, by late Monday, the Observatory Hill weather station had already collected around three times the monthly average of 80mm.”<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
