John Longmire<\/a> has ruled himself out of contention for both the Carlton<\/a> and Essendon<\/a> head coaching jobs.<\/p>\n

Sydney<\/a>\u2018s 2012 premiership coach made it clear on Fox Footy on Wednesday night that he would instead remain committed to his role as the Swans\u2019 executive director of club performance and his newly formed business.<\/p>\n

Longmire was involved in the interviewing process for the inaugural Tasmania<\/a> job but it went to former Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cLooking back on it, I was asking more questions about them [the Devils] than they were asking about me,\u201d Longmire told AFL 360.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that told me more than anything, I guess, [about] where I sat. It was obviously told them but it also told me.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt certainly became clear over time about where I sat with my coaching at the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

AFL 360 host Gerard Whateley asked if that meant he was not yet ready to coach again.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I\u2019m not,\u201d Longmire replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cI certainly explored it. I went down the path of looking at it, [and] looked at it seriously. There\u2019s no question with that.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really fortunate \u2013 I helped start a business up here 18 months ago that I\u2019m really jumping into and enjoying. There\u2019s plenty to do and some great potential in that, some great growth.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I\u2019m going to do a bit of travel. I\u2019m looking forward to that, and watching my kids play sport.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked if he should be considered out of contention to coach either the Blues or Bombers, Longmire said: \u201cYes, Gerard. I\u2019ll be staying here in Sydney, and focused on the business that we\u2019re building here that\u2019s going really well, and got great potential.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hinkley was on Monday officially confirmed as Tasmania\u2019s inaugural coach on a five-year deal, ahead of the Devils\u2019 introduction to the AFL in 2028.<\/p>\n

Hinkley, Longmire and former Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley were all interviewed for the job.<\/p>\n

Longmire had classy words for Hinkley.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s going to do a great job, Kenny,\u201d the former Swans coach said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s got a great connection with his players, he\u2019s clearly experienced, he\u2019s a country lad, which I think fits in well with what they\u2019re after.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019ll be that coach that gets emotional, that gets passionate; players can\u2019t help but buy into that.<\/p>\n
