General Classification Standings after Stage 17The overall classification had an interesting day. Isaac del Toro missed one of the splits that happened early in the day, with Tadej Pogacar<\/a>‘s pace causing some of them whilst following breakaway attempts, but the moves wouldn’t move forward. Tadej Pogacar takes his lead of 4:32 minutes over Remco Evenepoel back into the Alpine stages, a rather safe gap if he does not experience mishaps over the coming days.Isaac del Toro remains third ahead of Paul Seixas, perhaps the most important battle at the moment – for the podium and the white jersey – with only 20 seconds separating the two. The Lidl-Trek duo of Juan Ayuso remain in fifth and sixth, worthy positions for both riders who remain consistent. Lenny Mart\u00ednez is seventh in the overall classification, followed by Tom Pidcock<\/a>.<\/p>\n The great move on today’s stage came from breakaway specialist Jordan Jegat. Whilst the TotalEnergies did not gain positions, he gained almost nine minutes on his direct rivals through another breakaway exhibition, where he was the only member of the GC men who made it in a group of several dozen riders.<\/p>\n After this performance he has solidified his ninth place, now carrying over 10 minutes of lead ahead of the even more surprising Yannis Voisard who may bring Tudor into a maiden Tour de France Top10. Mads Pedersen won the intermediate sprint and looked to play his cards perfectly on today’s stage. But Jasper Philipsen had a perfect finale and so the Dane’s gap has been cut further.<\/p>\n Philipsen effectively won the stage whilst Pedersen, even in a reduced group, sprinted only to eighth on the day. The lead has evaporated into a mere 7 points, meaning it can change hands via the stages’ intermediate sprints over the coming days. On stage 4, the German team gained 39 minutes on UAE, and the Emirati team worked through the gap over the past few weeks to bring it down to only a few seconds on stage 16.<\/p>\n But with the breakaway dynamics on stage 17, the gap has been extended back up to 18 minutes. Derek Gee and Quinn Simmons joined Mads Pedersen at the head of the race whilst UAE had only Nils Politt. The combined times meant that the peloton’s time loss of 8:46 minutes might have cost UAE the chance to win the classification.<\/p>\n
