{"id":820288,"date":"2026-07-24T06:30:10","date_gmt":"2026-07-24T06:30:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/820288\/"},"modified":"2026-07-24T06:30:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T06:30:10","slug":"socceroos-star-cristian-volpato-allegedly-tests-positive-for-cocaine-after-speeding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/820288\/","title":{"rendered":"Socceroos star Cristian Volpato allegedly tests positive for cocaine after speeding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Socceroos star Cristian Volpato has allegedly tested positive for cocaine while driving in Sydney.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The 22-year-old was stopped in a BMW Coupe about 1am today, allegedly travelling 109 kilometres an hour on the Anzac Bridge, a 60km\/h zone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He was subjected to a roadside drug test, which allegedly returned a positive result for cocaine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Mr Volpato was issued with a speeding fine and has had his international driver&#8217;s licence suspended for six months, meaning he cannot drive in New South Wales.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">A secondary sample of oral fluid was taken for further analysis, with police confirming inquiries were continuing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Police will allege they stopped Mr Volpato a few hours earlier, about 11pm yesterday, in the same area where he was also speeding.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">He was subjected to a roadside alcohol breath test, which returned a negative result.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The ABC has contacted Football Australia for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The 22-year-old professional soccer player made headlines when he switched allegiance from <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-06-30\/socceroos-volpato-not-immune-to-criticism\/106859142\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/106859142\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Italy to Australia in the World Cup this year.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Football Australia has a strict drug regulation policy managed through Sport Integrity Australia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Players and officials who test positive to prohibited substances without a valid therapeutic use exemption can be suspended for up to four years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">That can be reduced to three months if the use was out of competition and not performance-related.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Socceroos star Cristian Volpato has allegedly tested positive for cocaine while driving in Sydney.
