Netflix\u2019s Extraction franchise has finally made it to NSW, with a third instalment starting production on the state\u2019s South Coast with Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani.<\/p>\n

Directed by Sam Hargrave from a screenplay by David Weil, Extraction 3 will be filmed across the South Coast and Sydney until September with support from the Australian Government\u2019s Location Offset and the Made in NSW Fund via Screen NSW, with the expectation it will create 450 local jobs and contribute an estimated $127 million to the state\u2019s screen industry and broader economy.<\/p>\n

Plot details are still under wraps for the film, which picks up after 2023\u2019s Extraction 2, where mercenary Tyler Rake (Hemsworth) was recruited by a mysterious handler (Elba) on behalf of Tyler\u2019s ex-wife, Mia, to rescue her sister Ketevan and her children from a violent Georgian prison. Initially due to film in Sydney in 2021, Netflix relocated the sequel to Europe<\/a> amid the COVID-19 pandemic, with a source close to the production attributing the decision to Hemsworth\u2019s tight schedule ahead of Furiosa, coupled with the logistical risk of moving cast and crew into regional NSW under pandemic restrictions.<\/p>\n

Extraction 3 is produced by AGBO\u2019s Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco and Ari Costa, alongside Hemsworth and Benjamin Grayson for Wild State, and Hargrave, Patrick Newall, Eric Gitter and Peter Schwerin. Steven V. Scavelli and Shelby Malone executive produce. The Extraction franchise is based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks; from a story by Parks, Joe Russo and Anthony Russo; with illustrations by Fernando Le\u00f3n Gonz\u00e1lez.<\/p>\n

Hargrave said the production was aiming to push the Extraction franchise\u2019s action filmmaking further than before.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re very much looking forward to filming the third chapter in our Extraction saga here in New South Wales,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal has always been to push the boundaries of action filmmaking, and with Extraction 3, we\u2019re taking our biggest swing yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Newall thanked the state and federal figures who had supported the production.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have had tremendous cooperation from [Arts] Minister [Tony] Burke, Peter Ernst, head of regional ports, Port Authority NSW, Jason Potkins, director, screen incentive sections at the Office for the Arts,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
