The Newcastle Knights\u2019 finals hopes took a massive hit as Dylan Lucas and Dylan Brown went down injured in Friday night\u2019s clash against he Roosters<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Lucas was left \u201calmost inconsolable\u201d after the star second rower suffered a dislocated and suspected fractured left ankle while Brown was taken off with a knee injury. <\/p>\n

The club is hopeful Brown did not tear his ACL, however he will undergo scans on Saturday to determine the full extent of the injury.<\/p>\n

It is the same knee that Brown injured in Newcastle\u2019s Round 2 win over the Sea Eagles, which was later determined to be a grade 2 MCL strain.<\/p>\n

As for Lucas, he had been enjoying a breakout 2026 season, having already established himself as one of the league\u2019s up-and-coming edge forwards before being rewarded for his strong form with a State of Origin debut. <\/p>\n

The NSW Blues representative was shaping as a key attacking weapon for Newcastle in the finals, but instead the Knights are set to be without Lucas for the rest of the season. <\/p>\n

The 26-year-old was taken from the field on a stretcher after landing awkwardly in a tackle in the first half.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was bent in a way that it should not have been bent. This is terrible,\u201d Dan Ginnane said on Fox League.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is almost inconsolable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lucas was placed onto a stretcher and taken off on a medicab while giving the Newcastle crowd a \u2018shaka\u2019 to let them know he was in good spirits despite the setback. <\/p>\n

Unfortunately in a later update, Fox League\u2019s sideline reporter Jake Duke confirmed Lucas had been taken to hospital and that the Knights\u2019 early diagnosis was a dislocated and suspected fractured left ankle.<\/p>\n

Should that be confirmed, it would be the end of a sensational season for Lucas, who had scored 10 tries in 15 games for the Knights.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was obviously terrible to see,\u201d Newcastle teammate Fletcher Sharpe told Fox League at halftime. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou never want to see one of your own go down like that.\u201d<\/p>\n
