NHL players, and brothers, Jack, Quinn and Luke Hughes have joined The Underground, a private golf society, as investor-partners.<\/p>\n

Since his gold medal winning goal at the Olympics and the end of the NHL season, Jack Hughes has shifted his attention to the golf course. And he\u2019s not just playing the game; he\u2019s investing in it. <\/p>\n

Hughes, 25, and his brothers, fellow NHL standouts Quinn and Luke \u2013 avid golfers all \u2013 have joined on as investor-partners in a private golf society called The Underground<\/a> that was co-founded by actor and producer Mark Wahlberg. They\u2019re the latest in a growing group of professional athletes, entertainers and business leaders backing the company, which owns a unique space within the golf industry. <\/p>\n

The Underground<\/a> was founded in 2025, by Wahlberg, Doug Meijer and Garry Singer, as a golf community whose core offering is premium and precision golf balls. Members receive a year\u2019s supply of 12 dozen balls \u2013 all manufactured in small batches and sorted to tolerances beyond what mass-market brands employ \u2013 along with a curated collection of member-only apparel and accessories.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I\u2019m not on the ice, there\u2019s a good chance I\u2019m on the golf course,\u201d said Jack Hughes, a seventh-year center for the NHL\u2019s New Jersey Devils who became a national hero with his overtime goal against Canada in the gold medal game at the 2026 Winter Olympics. \u201cI\u2019m always keeping tabs on the newest performance equipment and I wanted to be involved with a company focused on making the best golf ball possible. That\u2019s what attracted me to The Underground as an owner.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Underground isn\u2019t trying to compete with legacy golf ball brands. Much like exclusive private clubs within the game, there\u2019s a cache, for some golfers, in being part of an equipment company that has intentionally limited product supply that\u2019s not sold in retail stores or online. Athletes (like the Hughes brothers), celebrities and CEOs are among those who have joined the society, and the balls are emerging as a popular gifting option for spouses seeking something for the golfer who already has about everything. <\/p>\n

“Once you see the caliber of people connected to this brand, it becomes a pretty easy decision,” said Quinn Hughes, an All-Star defenseman for the Minnesota Wild who also starred for the U.S. Olympic team. “There are a lot of incredibly impressive people involved already, and that’s something that immediately stood out to me.”<\/p>\n

Terms of the ownership stake weren\u2019t disclosed. Membership in The Underground starts at $2,800 annually and applications opened earlier this year<\/a>. <\/p>\n

“This is where golf is headed,” said Wahlberg, who counts The Underground among his varied business interests. “It’s younger, more dynamic and more connected to culture than ever before. Jack, Quinn and Luke are not only world-class athletes, they’re passionate golfers who understand what we’re building.
