PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University’s Samuel M. Mencoff ’78 Vice President for Athletics and Recreation M. Grace Calhoun ’92 has today announced that Eric Reveno will be the University’s next Men’s Basketball Head Coaching Chair. Reveno becomes the 32nd head coach in program history.

“Coach Eric Reveno is exactly the right person to lead this program forward, bringing a wealth of both coaching knowledge and championship experiences to College Hill,” Calhoun said. “Eric is a proven winner who personally understands our model of achieving both academic and athletic excellence. I could not be more delighted to welcome him and his family to Brown.”

A Stanford alumnus, Reveno most recently served as the James C. Gaither Associate Head Men’s Basketball Coach at his alma mater. His second coaching stint at Stanford began in 2024, and he added General Manager responsibilities ahead of the 2025-26 season. In the dual role, Reveno helped lead every aspect of the Cardinal men’s basketball program.

“Brown University represents a rare opportunity where academic excellence, athletic excellence, and personal development are truly aligned,” Reveno said. “My family and I are honored to join the Brown community. We will build a championship program by developing exceptional teammates, exceptional students, and exceptional competitors. Our goal is to pursue Ivy League championships while preparing young men to lead meaningful lives long after basketball. I can’t wait to get to work.”

Reveno previously served on Stanford’s staff from 1997-2006, helping guide the program to national success. He was an assistant coach from 1997-04, before being elevated to Associate Head Coach in 2004. His Cardinal teams reached the 1998 NCAA Tournament Final Four, made seven NCAA Tournaments, won four Pac-10 Championships, achieved three No. 1 national rankings, and produced a number of future NBA players including Brook and Robin Lopez, Jason and Jarron Collins, and Mark Madsen. Stanford posted a 204-54 record and achieved a 100% graduation rate over Reveno’s tenure, while achieving three 30-win seasons and five 20-win seasons.

Reveno brings significant head coaching experience to College Hill, having helmed the University of Portland program from 2006-16. He turned Portland into a force in the West Coast Conference (WCC), earning a top 25 national ranking and breaking numerous program records. Portland’s 21 victories during the 2009-10 campaign matched a school record at the Division I level, and it was only the program’s second 20-win season since 1958. In 2009, he was named WCC Coach of the Year, becoming the first UP men’s basketball coach to earn the honor since 1978.

Reveno served as the Associate Head Coach at Georgia Tech from 2016-22. In his first season, Georgia Tech reached the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) Championship Game and earned Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Coach of the Year honors. From 2019-21, Georgia Tech had its first back-to-back seasons with double-digit ACC wins in program history. In 2020-21, the Yellow Jackets finished fourth in the ACC, won the ACC Tournament Championship, and made the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance in 11 seasons.

Before returning to Stanford’s bench, Reveno was the Associate Head Coach at Oregon State for two seasons from 2022-24. The team reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament in 2021 as a No. 12 seed.

Reveno has repeatedly been recognized for his leadership beyond the floor. In 2021, he was honored with the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) “Guardian of the Game” Award for Service, and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Community Service Award was given to Georgia Tech for their #AllVoteNoPlay initiative. Reveno was recognized with the Georgia Tech Athletics Department “Driving Character Award” in 2020 and was a finalist for the prestigious Skip Prosser “Man of the Year” Award in 2010.

As a player and two-time captain at Stanford (1985-87, 89), Reveno played in 116 games. He was a captain and the starting center on the 1988-89 team which achieved a No. 12 national ranking and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1942. Reveno was named District 8 Academic All-American and was elected “Most Inspirational Player of the Year” twice by his teammates.

In 1989, Reveno earned his bachelor’s degree from Stanford in economics. He spent four years playing professional basketball for the Japan Energy before returning to Stanford to add a Master of Business Administration degree in 1995.
