{"id":822282,"date":"2026-07-25T04:49:11","date_gmt":"2026-07-25T04:49:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/822282\/"},"modified":"2026-07-25T04:49:11","modified_gmt":"2026-07-25T04:49:11","slug":"first-positive-case-of-h5-bird-flu-in-queensland-confirmed-by-csiro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/822282\/","title":{"rendered":"First positive case of H5 bird flu in Queensland confirmed by CSIRO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Queensland has confirmed its first case of H5 bird flu after a dead petrel was found on Moreton Island, east of Brisbane.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The bird was found by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service staff on Saturday, July 18 and sent for testing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">On Friday, authorities announced the suspected case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) this afternoon confirmed tests conducted by the CSIRO Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness had come back positive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">They said there remained no detections in poultry, or evidence of large-scale deaths in any animals in Queensland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The risk to human health remains low, the department said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A woman with white hair and glasses\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1784954951_565_a3d2149d001fbc4f3bca24a23ac56691.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Queensland chief veterinary officer Allison Cook said said it was a matter of &#8220;when, not if&#8221;, the virus was detected in the state.
