Former Labor senator Nova Peris<\/a> has been accused of amplifying anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian content by sharing posts that claim Gaza is full of \u201csavages\u201d and \u201cfucking monsters\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Australian Muslim Advocacy Network (Aman) has identified dozens of what it describes as dehumanising posts seen on Peris\u2019s verified X account between April 2024 and March 2026.<\/p>\n

Peris, a patron of the Labor Friends of Israel group who did not author the posts but instead shared them on her account, did not respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n

Aman said the material had been assessed against its own 12-category framework for identifying dehumanising speech, developed for use in legal proceedings, and alleged the posts fell across every category in the framework.<\/p>\n

Peris, an Olympic gold medallist, former senator and recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia, is the patron of Labor Friends of Israel alongside former Victorian premier Daniel Andrews.<\/p>\n

Among the posts identified by the organisation are those which describing Palestinians as \u201csavages\u201d, \u201cfucking monsters\u201d and the claim that Gaza\u2019s entire population consists of two million terrorists.<\/p>\n

In one reposted by Peris, a user shared footage of Muslims engaged in Friday prayers in a park on Good Friday and said: \u201cThis does not belong in this country!\u201d. Another claimed \u201cIslam should be banned in the West\u201d. The organisation also identified posts objecting to a journalist wearing a hijab while reporting on the Bondi terror attack.<\/p>\n

Some of the posts could still be seen on Peris\u2019s X account on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Labor party<\/a> secretariat and the Friends of Israel were both contacted for comment. Neither responded.<\/p>\n

Rita Jabri Markwell, a solicitor and adviser to Aman, said the posts talked about Muslims and Palestinians in a dehumanising way, and were \u201camplified\u201d by Peris.<\/p>\n

\u201cEssentially saying that we are subhuman, that we are animalistic, that we lack human qualities,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Saying] that we are demonic, mocking the suffering of children in Gaza \u2026 and this is just unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Markwell said Peris\u2019s position gave \u201cauthority\u201d to the posts, and they were dangerous.<\/p>\n

Last August, Anthony D\u2019Adam, a convener of Labor Friends of Palestine, wrote to the Labor\u2019s national secretary, Paul Erickson, asking him to expel Peris from the party.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have been contacted by constituents concerned about the damage to social cohesion and multicultural values posed by the sorts of rhetoric promoted by Ms Peris,\u201d he wrote. \u201cSuch behaviour cannot be accepted in our Party as it damages our standing in the community.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a response seen by Guardian Australia, Erickson said he had \u201cmade inquiries with the NSW, Victorian and NT Branches of the ALP\u201d, as states and territories manage party membership.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs far as I can ascertain, Nova Peris is no longer a member of the ALP,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n
