{"id":822961,"date":"2026-07-25T13:01:18","date_gmt":"2026-07-25T13:01:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/822961\/"},"modified":"2026-07-25T13:01:18","modified_gmt":"2026-07-25T13:01:18","slug":"phoenix-at-the-pointy-end-of-major-signing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/822961\/","title":{"rendered":"Phoenix at the pointy end of major signing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The South East Melbourne Phoenix loom to be one of the strong contenders once again when the Hungry Jack\u2019s NBL27 Season tips off in September.<\/p>\n<p>The Heartland club has Nathan Sobey, Angus Glover, Jordan Hunter, Akech Aliir, Ellis Biggar, Daniel Foster, and Patrick Ryan all returning to Josh King\u2019s side.<\/p>\n<p>As well as that, import D&#8217;Shawn Schwartz, NBL Next Star Dash Daniels, sharpshooter Tanner Krebs, and big man Hunter Goodrick have all joined the club in the off-season.<\/p>\n<p>The one glaring hole on the squad, especially after Owen Foxwell\u2019s departure, is the point guard spot.<\/p>\n<p>But during Friday\u2019s Phoenix Major Luncheon at the Glasshouse, coach King, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbl.com.au\/news\/josh-king-signs-extension-with-south-east-melbourne-phoenix\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">who just signed a new three-year deal with the club<\/a>, explained his team are closing in on a potential signing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;ve still got three roster spots to fill,\u201d King said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether we sign two imports and one local or two locals and one import, we&#8217;re not sure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a meeting yesterday, and we had about a hundred different scenarios up on the board, so it\u2019s really exciting to see where we finish up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have an offer out there right now for a point guard, and hopefully that gets cleaned up really soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>King went on to elaborate what kind of point guard his club was chasing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were on two or three guys, and we liked all of them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;ve decided to go with the guy that&#8217;s got the contract in hand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe&#8217;s a big point guard.
