Argentine basketball is in mourning. Horacio Muratore, one of the most influential administrators in the history of the sport in the country, died this Friday at the age of 74, as confirmed by the Argentine Basketball Confederation (CAB) through an official statement.<\/p>\n
Born in Tucum\u00e1n, Muratore built an extensive administrative career that took him from the local level to the highest leadership of world basketball. He was president of the Argentine Basketball Confederation from 1992 to 2008 and, years later, became the only Argentine to serve as president of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), a position he held from 2014 to 2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cHis career reflects tireless commitment and dedication to basketball\u201d, the CABB said in recalling a journey that began at Tucum\u00e1n BB club and continued through the Tucum\u00e1n Federation, the South American Basketball Confederation (Consub\u00e1squet), FIBA Americas, and finally FIBA itself.<\/p>\n
During his 16 years at the helm of the Argentine Confederation, one of the most successful periods in the history of national basketball took shape. During that time, the project that led to the rise of the Golden Generation was consolidated, the national team that won the gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games and defined an era for Argentine sport.<\/p>\n
His influence also extended to the international stage. From the presidency of FIBA, he promoted a series of reforms aimed at modernizing the organization and strengthening the global growth of basketball, leaving a mark that went beyond Argentina\u2019s borders.<\/p>\n
The Argentine Basketball Confederation expressed its \u201cdeep sorrow\u201d over his passing and sent its condolences to the administrator\u2019s family and loved ones.
