I also support the legitimate aspirations of Palestinians for their own state and to live in peace and security with prosperity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, we want to see that coming together, and Australia can play a role in promoting harmony rather than conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Albanese said the fact that Labor MPs Josh Burns, who was Jewish, and Basem Abdo, the son of Palestinian refugees, jointly backed the platform showed the party was overwhelmingly united on the issue.<\/p>\n<p>The final platform approved on Saturday says that \u201cLabor unreservedly condemns terrorism and violent extremism, including as perpetrated by Hamas and other extremists\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It also states that the party \u201copposes the annexation of Palestinian territory and wants Israel to bring its illegal settlement activity and the occupation to an end, to see security for Palestine, for Israel and for the region\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Related Article<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/politics\/victoria\/jacinta-allan-s-leadership-on-the-line-after-crucial-meeting-of-labor-chiefs-20260726-p60io7.html\" tabindex=\"-1\" class=\"sc-cba76dee-0 hdiTqm\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1785077779_178_0585778285ab70a146dcd29113631ce4e6d9c4a91fcd411f72ac0a95195fe776.jpeg\"  class=\"sc-d34e428-1 ioInpc\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Labor Friends of Palestine group declined to comment on the outcome of the national conference.<\/p>\n<p>Australia Palestine Advocacy Network President Nasser Mashni said the Labor conference had failed to live up to its promise by failing to even debate Husic\u2019s resolution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRather than allowing a place for everyone to participate, backroom dealings produced a compromised outcome,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy evading debate, Labor risks losing the trust of its own base and ceding more ground to One Nation and others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cManaging dissent, rather than engaging with it, is not leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>APAN had called on Labor to go further by supporting the end of military co-operation with Israel and forcing the Future Fund to divest from companies operating in Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Aghion, president of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, said: \u201cThe government has made Hamas playing no part in any Palestinian governing authority and being neutralised militarily a condition of its support for Palestinian statehood, and we expect it to stick to that position regardless of the wording of the party platform.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are concerned to ensure that the conference resolution will not signal a change in government policy in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Australia\/Israel &amp;
