Fresh from his impressive display at The Open Championship, Herbert closed with a stunning 10-under 62 at JCB Golf & Country Club to finish at a tournament-record 30-under par, the lowest winning total in LIV Golf history.

The Victorian also rewrote the league’s record books, setting new marks for the most birdies in a single tournament (30) and the most combined birdies and eagles (32) in an event.

Herbert’s wire-to-wire victory was built on rounds of 61-66-69-62 as he held off a charging Tyrrell Hatton, who delighted the home crowd with a bogey-free 9-under 63 to finish six shots back in second at 24-under.

“I knew it wasn’t going to be a day where even par, 1-under was going to get it done for me,” Herbert said.

“I knew I had to go out there and get it. Just kept pushing myself the whole way, and here we are.”

The win caps a remarkable fortnight for Herbert, who tied the lowest round in major championship history with a third-round 62 at Royal Birkdale before carrying that confidence into England.

“Last week gave me a lot of confidence that I can mix it with the best guys,” Herbert said.

“I just wanted to carry that into this week the best I could. I think I got out of my own way the first two rounds. It was good to play like that today when I was being pushed by two of the best players in the world.”

Bryson DeChambeau continued his own strong form to finish solo third at 21-under after a closing 68, while Ripper GC captain Cameron Smith finished fourth at 17-under following a final-round 69.

The result also secured Ripper GC the team title at 52-under, four shots clear of Legion XIII, giving the Australian outfit its third victory of the season and first on European soil.

Smith praised Herbert’s recent form after watching his teammate dominate from the opening round.

“He’s a great teammate. He wants to do everything to make the team better,” Smith said.

“He’s a great golfer as well, and he showed it the last few events. The confidence that he has at the moment, I wouldn’t be surprised if he ticks off another one or two before the end of the year.”

Marc Leishman said the team’s success made the week even more satisfying.

“The great thing about this is you don’t really think about the individual stuff when your team is right up there,” Leishman said.

“You’re looking at where the team is and what you can do to help the team. It’s so much fun to be able to enjoy a good week with people who are equally as happy as you.”

Travis Smyth, despite battling through a difficult individual week, celebrated his first LIV team title alongside his fellow Australians.

“This is the team I’ve always wanted to play on, being Aussie,” Smyth said.

“To be able to get up on that podium and lift a trophy with the boys is unbelievable.”
