Brisbane young gun Ty Gallop has been referred directly to the Tribunal for his act against Mitch Georgiades<\/a>, cited for serious misconduct. <\/p>\n

In a heated moment during the first half of the Lions\u2019 domination of Port Adelaide on Sunday, Gallop, away from the play, slammed Georgiades\u2019 head into the Gabba turf. <\/p>\n

It occurred after the 20-year-old had wrapped Georgiades up in a tackle, with the footy then leaving the area before Gallop committed the ugly off-the-ball act. <\/p>\n

Gallop pulled Georgiades – who was already lying on his stomach – up by his jumper, before slamming him back down, with the Power forward left dazed after hitting his head on the ground. <\/p>\n

Serious misconduct charges cover the bases of unnecessary and unsportsmanlike conduct, including Tristan Xerri\u2019s citation for wiping his blood on Andy McGrath. <\/p>\n

Given the intentional nature of Gallop\u2019s act, the AFL is expected to ask for at least a two-match suspension. <\/p>\n

Brisbane plays Carlton in Round 21, and Hawthorn in Round 22. <\/p>\n

First Crack\u2019s Jay Clark predicted a serious misconduct charge on Sunday night. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis is one of the more disappointing acts of the season,\u201d Clark said on Fox Footy. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat (the initial tackle) is fine, but \u2026 that (follow-up act) is really ordinary from a young player who would know better. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019ll be a serious misconduct charge. The AFL has no option here. Michael Christian has to send that straight to the Tribunal. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a one, potentially two-match ban, because you can see the significant force – he bangs him into the ground. <\/p>\n

\u201c(Georgiades) is in a defenceless position on his front. He can\u2019t do anything to stop that. <\/p>\n

\u201cAre we treating concussion seriously in our game? Because if we are, they need to come down hard on that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Western Bulldogs games record-holder Brad Johnson also expected the young swingman to be punished. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you\u2019re in that position, Georgiades isn\u2019t expecting a bloke to pick him up and slam him back into the ground on his head,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not good, and he\u2019ll get his whack for it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gallop, who started his emerging AFL career in attack before flourishing in defence, has played 23 senior games since being drafted 42nd by the Lions in the 2024 national draft. <\/p>\n
