The latest report has stirred up controversy, with Republican Congressman Thomas Massie describing it as an \u201cabsurd ruse\u201d in attempt to downplay losses.<\/p>\n
The Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS) was updated over the weekend to include an \u201cOverseas Operations\u201d category covering personnel killed and wounded \u201cstarting July 7\u201d.<\/p>\n
According to the revised figures, the official toll for the initial phase of the US-Iran war, dubbed by the White House as \u201cOperation Epic Fury\u201d, now stands at 14 service members killed and more than 400 wounded in action.<\/p>\n
The update follows controversy after the Pentagon previously reduced Operation Epic Fury\u2019s casualty totals from 18 deaths and 482 wounded, figures that had appeared in the database just days earlier.<\/p>\n
It came as Iran and the US held their fire today, handing Gulf shipping and the oil industry a respite from missile strikes as Donald Trump\u2019s UN envoy said the president was \u201cgiving talks some space\u201d. <\/p>\n
Iran said it had halted retaliatory attacks against Washington\u2019s allies in the Middle East, and US ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz told Fox News that, while forces remained \u201clocked and loaded\u201d, Mr Trump would give negotiations \u201ca little bit of room\u201d. <\/p>\n
