While Adam Doueihi\u2019s long-term future at the Wests Tigers remains clouded<\/a>, one thing is clear: the Lebanon international\u2019s best position is at halfback. <\/p>\n

At least, that is what the numbers suggest with Doueihi ranking as the best halfback in the entire NRL this season according to the Red Bull High Flyer Player Rankings.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The numbers were restricted to players who have made at least 10 appearances this season, which meant the likes of Tom Dearden and Tanah Boyd popped up in the top-10 list after injured-impacted years.<\/p>\n

But it is Doueihi who comes out on top with a predicted score value (PSV) total of +5.85. <\/p>\n

Unlike some other players who have particularly strong run or pass numbers, Doueihi\u2019s scores are pretty even across the board although his run score of +2.86 ranks the best of the bunch in the top 10.<\/p>\n

His -1.04 error score is one of the higher marks, but it is more than offset by his +0.67 PSV score with Doueihi recording seven tries, which is the second-most among halfbacks this year.<\/p>\n

Before we get into the rest of the top-10, in case you need a reminder here is a breakdown of exactly how the Red Bull High Flyer Rankings work and how the numbers are calculated.<\/p>\n

First up, the PSV is not a score out of 10.<\/p>\n

Rather, each player is ranked relative to their PSV, a model which measures how much each player contributes to the final scoreboard.<\/p>\n

The system processes more than 15,000 data points per game, including every run, pass, kick, error and penalty.<\/p>\n

The model is based on deriving the intrinsic value of every single action that occurs in a match relative to the final scoreboard using a proprietary AI model.<\/p>\n

It means that every moment in the game is assessed based on how it changes a team\u2019s likelihood of scoring.<\/p>\n

For instance, if an action such as a linebreak or linebreak assist improves the chance of points, the player responsible gains PSV.<\/p>\n

If they concede a penalty or drop the ball, however, it reduces the chance and their PSV decreases accordingly.<\/p>\n

These changes are tracked across the entire game to produce a total performance value for every player, allowing them to be ranked based on their overall impact on the game rather than just traditional statistics.<\/p>\n

So, how does Doueihi fare among the rest of the NRL\u2019s halfbacks?<\/p>\n

1. ADAM DOUEIHI (Wests Tigers) +5.85 <\/p>\n

Well, Doueihi comes out in first place just ahead of Melbourne\u2019s Jahrome Hughes. <\/p>\n

Doueihi was in career-best form for the Tigers earlier in the season and the fact he still ranks in top spot despite the club\u2019s recent struggles speaks to how well he has been playing separate of the broader team context. <\/p>\n

That, again, is the benefit of PSV. It can help highlight the impact of a player regardless of the final result and in the case of Doueihi, he is still in everything good at the Tigers even when the scoreboard isn\u2019t in their favour.<\/p>\n

But more than anything, it proves that Doueihi\u2019s best position is at halfback for him to be out-performing some of the biggest names in the competition.<\/p>\n

2. JAHROME HUGHES (Melbourne Storm) +5.83 <\/p>\n

It has been a tough year for the Storm but one constant, when healthy, has been superstar halfback Jahrome Hughes.<\/p>\n

Hughes leads all halfbacks with 25 try assists and 21 linebreak assists, and that passing prowess shows in the PSV rankings with the Kiwi international boasting the second-best passing score only behind Nathan Cleary. <\/p>\n

His kicking game has also been elite, with Hughes\u2019 +0.64 score only ranking behind Jamal Fogarty, Ashton Ward and Doueihi while his PSV error is the lowest of the top-10 which speaks to how consistent and discipline Hughes has been this season.<\/p>\n

3. TOM DEARDEN (North Queensland Cowboys) +5.50<\/p>\n

Jake Clifford has been a revelation at the Cowboys this season, but another sideline stint for Tom Dearden is the last thing North Queensland need considering how strong he has performed in 2026.<\/p>\n

Dearden came in third in the PSV rankings at halfback and much like Doueihi, he has a well-balanced game which ranks right near the top in both PSV run and PSV pass.<\/p>\n

His kicking game hasn\u2019t been as strong, with Dearden\u2019s score of -0.13 speaking to the fact he thrives more as a run-first halfback and would be a perfect complement to a more traditional, organising No.7 in Clifford if healthy.<\/p>\n

4. TANAH BOYD (Warriors) +4.95<\/p>\n

What could have been for the Warriors. <\/p>\n

The premiership contenders have largely made it work without their injured halfback, with Te Maire Martin and Chanel Harris-Tavita becoming a reliable tandem in Boyd\u2019s place.<\/p>\n

But Boyd was enjoying a breakout season before he went down with a season-ending injury earlier this season, ranking fourth in the PSV top-10 after just qualifying with 10 healthy games.<\/p>\n

5. NATHAN CLEARY (Penrith Panthers) +4.57<\/p>\n

It is a surprise to see the Panthers superstar come in this low considering Penrith has been the form team of the competition.<\/p>\n

Cleary has strong numbers in both PSV run (+2.27) and pass (+3.78) with his passing numbers being the best of the lot. <\/p>\n

But his PSV error score of \u20141.04 ranks among the lowest in the top-10, while his PSV penalty (0.32) is the second-lowest so those marks all slightly weight Cleary down despite his heavy involvement in Penrith\u2019s scoring opportunities this year.<\/p>\n

6. NICHO HYNES (Cronulla Sharks) +4.54<\/p>\n

Hynes has been in fine form recently and comes in sixth in the rankings despite sharing responsibilities with another dominant playmaker in Braydon Trindall.<\/p>\n

Hynes\u2019 overall PSV total comes in just short of Cleary, but his error score of -1.49 is the highest of the top-10 which knocks him down. <\/p>\n

7. ASHTON WARD (Rabbitohs) +4.21<\/p>\n

The Rabbitohs look to have found their long-term answer at halfback.<\/p>\n

They certainly believe in War after extending him until the end of 2028 earlier this month and the young halfback is in fine company in the PSV rankings, coming in at seventh.<\/p>\n

His run score (+1.57) is quite low, which is hardly surprising given Ward still has a slight frame and struggles to break tackles as a result.<\/p>\n

But his PSV kick score of +0.79 is right up there just behind Doueihi, which speaks to how well he has gone putting the Rabbitohs in strong field position off the boot.<\/p>\n

8. JAMAL FOGARTY (Manly Sea Eagles) +4.20<\/p>\n

The Sea Eagles are on the slide, but on a whole new recruit Jamal Fogarty has had a positive impact according to the PSV player ratings.<\/p>\n

Fogarty\u2019s PSV kick score is the highest of any halfback in the top-10, which doesn\u2019t come as too much of a surprise given he is more of your traditional general who guides the Sea Eagles around the park. <\/p>\n

The veteran halfback has been a steady presence and while his PSV run and pass numbers rank down the bottom in the top-10, his error count is relatively low in comparison.<\/p>\n

9. LACHLAN GALVIN (Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs) +4.00 <\/p>\n

Galvin\u2019s PSV run (+2.56) and pass (+2.90) pass figures are right up there but his PSV kick score -0.40 bring Galvin down, as does his -1.03 error score.<\/p>\n

It is not a surprise to see Galvin\u2019s kicking score be so low given both Matt Burton and now Stephen Crichton have largely taken on the kicking duties, which is even more proof that the young playmaker is better suited as a five-eighth in the long-term.<\/p>\n

10.SAM WALKER (Sydney Roosters) +3.84 <\/p>\n

Round out of the top-10 is Roosters halfback Sam Walker, whose PSV pass score of +3.24 is up there with the best at the position. <\/p>\n

His error score of \u20141.11 is up there too though, which is a perfect encapsulation of the high-risk, high-reward style Walker leans into.<\/p>\n
