<\/p>\nIt took just 16 days of married life for British tennis star Katie Boulter to jokingly threaten her new husband Alex de Minaur with divorce.<\/p>\n
The whole thing kicked off when the US Open announced its mixed doubles lineup, featuring the likes of Novak Djokovic paired with Aryna Sabalenka, plus last year’s runners-up Casper Ruud and Iga Swiatek. <\/p>\n
Neither Boulter nor de Minaur made the cut, but that didn’t stop the newlyweds from having some fun with it.<\/p>\n
Boulter tagged her Australian husband on Instagram, asking: “@alexdeminaur wanna play mixed with your wife?”<\/p>\n

Boulter’s one-word response was priceless: “@alexdeminaur divorce.”<\/p>\n
The couple’s wedding was a wonderfully low-key affair, held in a small church in Old Woodhouse, Leicestershire \u2014 not far from Woodhouse Eaves, the village where Boulter grew up.<\/p>\n
De Minaur took the wheel of a black Porsche Carrera to get them to the ceremony, with his bride riding alongside him as passenger.<\/p>\n
A family insider revealed that the guest list was kept strictly to relatives, making it a truly intimate occasion.<\/p>\n
And rather than some lavish reception, the celebrations carried on at a local pub nearby \u2014 which feels perfectly fitting for the pair.<\/p>\n

It’s clear the couple wanted something personal and understated, a world away from the spotlight they’re used to on the tennis court.<\/p>\n
Jokes aside, de Minaur had nothing but lovely things to say about their big day when he spoke about it afterwards.<\/p>\n
“It was an amazing time. [It was] everything we could have ever imagined,” he said. “It was like our own little movie. We were able to celebrate with family and friends and have a very small honeymoon, which consisted of two days. Then we’re on a flight here to Washington and getting our heads screwed back on and back to being tennis players.”<\/p>\n
Two days isn’t much of a honeymoon, but the tennis calendar waits for nobody.<\/p>\n
De Minaur sounded pretty relaxed about the transition back to work, adding: “The way the season works, we’re back to work, right? We’re back to being tennis players. That being said, I don’t think much has changed for me being married. I think same old-same old. I’m definitely very excited to get going.”<\/p>\n
Both players are now back in action at the Washington Open, where de Minaur is the defending champion after defeating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in last year’s final. He’ll be keen to hold onto that title before the US Open gets underway at Flushing Meadows next month.<\/p>\n
As for Boulter, she’s also settled the question everyone’s been asking about her surname. According to journalist Ben Rothenberg, the 29-year-old will use de Minaur privately but continue competing under her maiden name on the WTA Tour.
