(Image credit: AJ Smadi)<\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-4deb8aca-89f4-11f1-b735-0bf277282f70\">An astrophotographer captured a breathtaking scene as the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/missions\/international-space-station\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/missions\/international-space-station\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/space-exploration\/missions\/international-space-station\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">International Space Station<\/a> zoomed by Venus in the daytime sky.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-c8009efe-89f4-11f1-81fd-bb879b211459\"\/>What is it?<\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-c8009f80-89f4-11f1-a187-11c1d6324a81\">Photographer <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/aj.smadi\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/aj.smadi\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">AJ Smadi<\/a> set up the scene on July 18 in a park near Seattle, Washington. Smadi used a 9.25&#8243; (23.5 cm) Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope and a ZWO ASI662MC camera equipped with an ultraviolet and infrared filter to capture the incredible image.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-c8009f80-89f4-11f1-a187-11c1d6324a81-1\">But this isn&#8217;t the first time Smadi has pulled off such a feat. Just over a year ago, the photographer captured the ISS beside Venus in <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/apod.nasa.gov\/apod\/ap250411.html\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/apod.nasa.gov\/apod\/ap250411.html\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a photo that was selected by NASA<\/a> as one of its Astronomy Photos of the Day.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The thing that inspired me to capture Venus with the ISS is the fact that nobody has done it before,&#8221; Smadi told Space.com by email. &#8220;After having realized this in April 2025 following my first time capturing the pair together, I was determined to best my own achievement,&#8221; Smadi said.<\/p>\n<p>Smadi regularly photographs the ISS but says the clarity differs greatly depending on the stability of the air and its distance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"vanilla-image-block\" style=\"padding-top:56.25%;\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/eEPoRtuzSvY6ZSbVc3iZvc.jpg\" alt=\"a t-shaped space station next to a white half-orb in a blue sky\"   loading=\"lazy\" data-new-v2-image=\"true\" data-original-mos=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/eEPoRtuzSvY6ZSbVc3iZvc.jpg\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/eEPoRtuzSvY6ZSbVc3iZvc.jpg\" class=\"rounded-[var(--image--border-radius,0)] inline expandable\"\/><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/eEPoRtuzSvY6ZSbVc3iZvc.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"expand-button icon-expand-image icon\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/eEPoRtuzSvY6ZSbVc3iZvc.jpg\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"><\/p>\n<p>A timelapse photo of Venus passing beside the International Space Station as captured by photographer A.J.
