After capturing\u00a0numerous\u00a0awards and setting multiple program records, Madalyn Weinert<\/a> is heading off to Portugal for her latest adventure on the basketball court.\u00a0<\/p>\n Weinert signed with\u00a0Clube Amigos do\u00a0Basquete\u00a0Madeira\u00a0(CAB\u00a0Madeira)\u00a0of the\u00a0Liga\u00a0Feminina\u00a0de\u00a0Basquetebol, the top Portuguese professional\u00a0women’s\u00a0league, on Saturday, July 25 2026.<\/p>\n “I am truly so excited for the incredible opportunity to play basketball professionally in Portugal,” Weinert said. “Not\u00a0only will I get to compete at a high level,\u00a0but\u00a0I\u00a0am also getting the chance to experience a new culture and see new places\u00a0around\u00a0the world.”\u00a0<\/p>\n With the Badgers, Weinert\u00a0enjoyed an illustrious five-year career,\u00a0capped off by being named the\u00a0Brock University Female Athlete of the Year<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0U SPORTS Women’s Basketball Player of the Year<\/a>.\u00a0This past season, she\u00a0also\u00a0became\u00a0a\u00a0three-time Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Player of the Year<\/a>\u00a0and First Team All-Star.\u00a0<\/p>\n The local St. Catharines product\u00a0led the country and province in scoring\u00a0for the third straight year as she finished\u00a0with\u00a0530\u00a0total\u00a0points,\u00a024.1\u00a0points per game\u00a0and 196\u00a0field goals made.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Equally\u00a0dominant\u00a0on the glass, Weinert\u00a0also\u00a0finished first in U SPORTS and the OUA in rebounds (317) and rebounds per game (14.4) in 2025-26.\u00a0<\/p>\n Weinert leaves the University as the\u00a0program leader in\u00a0numerous\u00a0categories,\u00a0including total points (2,269), rebounds (1,223), field goals made (833), free throws made (514) and total blocks (196), among others.\u00a0<\/p>\n “Madalyn’s career at Brock University was one of\u00a0legendary\u00a0status and a body of work that consistently\u00a0set\u00a0new standards,” said Brock interim head coach Ajay Sharma<\/a>. “Her decision to play professionally is a natural progression for a player of her stature. While our program will miss her, we are tremendously proud of her and know she will\u00a0represent\u00a0Brock University well as she transitions into her professional career.”\u00a0<\/p>\n Her impact also extended\u00a0to the classroom, where\u00a0she\u00a0was a two-time David Atkinson\u00a0Surgite\u00a0Award winner and became the first female student-athlete in student history to be named a\u00a0U SPORTS Top 8 Academic All-Canadian<\/a>, an\u00a0honour\u00a0reserved for four female student-athletes nationwide.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Badgers made the OUA quarterfinal round\u00a0in\u00a0each of Weinert’s five seasons, highlighted\u00a0by\u00a0a\u00a0fourth-place finish at the 2021-22 U SPORTS Women’s Basketball Championship.\u00a0<\/p>\n Weinert joins the Funchal-based club, which has won six league titles in its history and were just outside playoff contention last season with a ninth-place finish.<\/p>\n The season is set to begin in early October and runs through late March, followed by the postseason in April-May.<\/p>\n Follow Weinert’s\u00a0new team on\u00a0Instagram<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Facebook<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n
