The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved a US$12.82 million loan to Cricket West Indies (CWI), which had anticipated a revenue shortfall and included ICC support in its financial strategy.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the year [that] ended September 30, 2025, CWI recorded a net loss of US$28m, following a net profit of US$23m for the year ended September 30, 2024,\u201d a report stated. \u201cThe remaining two years of the cycle are forecast to generate a net loss of approximately US$26m in 2026 and a net profit of approximately US$8m in 2027, reflecting the cyclical nature of international cricket revenues and expenditure patterns.\u201d<\/p>\n

CWI\u2019s CEO Chris Dehring praised the loan.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cCricket West Indies welcomes the ICC\u2019s continued support, which forms part of a broader programme of ongoing initiatives to support the organisation\u2019s long-term growth and development,\u201d Dehring said. \u201cThis is one element of a wider strategic direction aimed at strengthening CWI\u2019s financial and operational resilience, particularly given the inherent cyclical nature of its revenues and the rapidly changing global cricket landscape.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dehring added: \u201cThese initiatives are intended to position West Indies cricket for sustained success, greater stability and continued relevance in an evolving international environment.\u201d<\/p>\n

In its 2025 annual report, CWI explained its current financial challenges, saying it \u201chas demonstrated proactive and decisive action to strengthen its operating model.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Financial constraints forced Cricket West Indies to cut the Four-Day Championship, cancel the Under-17 tournament, and remove the CCC and West Indies Academy from regional competitions.\n<\/p>\n

In announcing the changes in February, Dehring acknowledged the financial challenges facing CWI.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we host countries like India or England, we are able to hold our head above water because those tours tend to pay for themselves,\u201d Dehring said. \u201cInternational broadcast rights for those series help us fund development programmes and all the tournaments we stage annually.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the same time, Dehring said, \u201cWhen we host Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and New Zealand\u2026as much as we enjoy the cricket, hosting those teams comes with a financial price.
