JR Smith probably wasn’t thrilled with his opening-round performance at the Michael Eaves Classic and Celebrity Pro-Am at TPC Louisiana on Tuesday, but he still flashed some impressive moments for a former NBA player competing in a notable golf tournament.<\/p>\n
Smith shot a nine-over 81, which placed him<\/a> in a tie for 43rd in the 46-person field.<\/p>\n Still, the retired basketball player notched a birdie and 10 pars in his debut round in the Advocates Professional Golf Association (APGA). If he can build on those impressive moments and find more consistency, it is not a stretch to suggest there will be quick improvement.<\/p>\n While Smith is best known for his basketball accolades, he is no stranger to the golf course.<\/p>\n In fact, he walked<\/a> on to<\/a> the North Carolina A&T men’s golf team in 2021 and just graduated from the school with a Bachelor of Arts in liberal studies this spring.<\/p>\n Since Smith is playing as an amateur, he will not be eligible for any prize money from the $25,000 purse.
