{"id":830894,"date":"2026-07-29T08:51:10","date_gmt":"2026-07-29T08:51:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/830894\/"},"modified":"2026-07-29T08:51:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-29T08:51:10","slug":"evan-rachel-wood-left-out-of-sequel-practical-magic-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/830894\/","title":{"rendered":"Evan Rachel Wood left out of sequel Practical Magic 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Practical Magic star Evan Rachel Wood admitted she was bummed she was left out of the highly anticipated sequel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI read the book, and it seems like they\u2019re not following the book,\u201d the actress, who portrayed Kylie Owens, the oldest daughter of Sandra Bullock\u2019s character in the 1998 film, <a class=\"body-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DbUP89aDA94\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">told Entertainment Tonight<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think, in the book, it would have made sense to bring me back. I think in the way they\u2019re approaching it, the way they\u2019re doing it, it didn\u2019t make sense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut it is sad because we bonded with that cast so much as children,\u201d Wood, 38, explained, adding, \u201cAnd so, to miss out on the opportunity to look at that cast and look at that house as an adult and see the history in our eyes is something that can\u2019t be faked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sad that doesn\u2019t get to exist, especially for the fans,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"poster-img\" src=\"https:\/\/content.api.news\/v3\/images\/bin\/47d34911ab8072667da1d4374d1a2bf4\" data-sctrack=\"op-poster-img\" alt=\"Star speaks out after being left out of sequel\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Thirteen star is being replaced by actress Joey King, who will take over the role as Kylie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I wish them all the best, and obviously wish Joey the best,\u201d Wood continued. \u201cAnd I hope she had a great time. I still have really fond memories of being in the original.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Actress Alexandra Artrip, who portrayed Bullock\u2019s youngest daughter, Antonia Owens, will also not return for the movie. Instead, Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams has taken her place.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Aidan Quinn, who starred as Bullock\u2019s on-screen detective love interest, Gary Hallet, was also not asked to return.<\/p>\n<p>Alice Hoffman\u2019s 1995 novel Practical Magic inspired the first movie based on two witchy sisters, starring Bullock as Sally Owens and Nicole Kidman as Gillian Owens.<\/p>\n<p>Hoffman wrote a sequel to her novel, The Book of Magic, released in 2021, which inspired the forthcoming Susanne Bier-directed movie.<\/p>\n<p>The second movie adaptation will hit cinemas on September 11.<\/p>\n<p>Wood previously announced that she would not be returning to the big screen for Practical Magic 2 via Instagram in June.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am getting asked about this a lot, so l\u2019ll just clear it up now; I was not asked to come back and be in the #PracticalMagic sequel. l offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line,\u201d she told fans via her stories.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was told they are recasting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice.
