Two-division WBC world champion Skye Nicolson<\/a> has officially signed with Jake Paul’s<\/a> Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), becoming the first fighter to compete under the newly announced strategic alliance<\/a> between MVP and Eddie Hearn’s promotion, Matchroom Boxing<\/a>, which is focused on accelerating the global growth of women’s boxing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nicolson, who had been with Matchroom throughout her professional career, will now have her career promoted by the combined power of both promotional giants (via Most Valuable Promotions on Instagram):<\/p>\n

\u201cMy goal has always been to test myself against the very best and be involved in the biggest fights in women’s boxing,\u201d she said in a statement<\/a> following her signing. \u201cI truly believe this move puts me in the best possible position to do exactly that. I’m excited for what’s ahead and can’t wait for this next chapter of my career to unfold.”<\/p>\n

When is Her Next Fight?<\/p>\n

Nicolson will make her MVP debut on August 29 at bp pulse LIVE in Birmingham, England, on the MVPW-06 card headlined by Mikaela Mayer<\/a> vs. Chantelle Cameron (via Most Valuable Promotions on Instagram): <\/p>\n

She will defend her WBC super bantamweight title against Japan’s former two-division champion Miyo Yoshida in a 10-round championship bout. This fight will be the first event staged under the MVP-Matchroom strategic alliance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWomen\u2019s boxing is entering a new era, and I want to be right at the centre of it,\u201d Nicolson stated. \u201cThis partnership with MVP and Matchroom gives me the opportunity to chase legacy, compete in the biggest fights out there, and help continue pushing women\u2019s boxing forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nicolson\u2019s first fight under the new deal will be broadcast on Sky Sports in the UK and ESPN in the US. She is determined to make a statement against Yoshida before setting her sights on unification bouts, possibly in Australia before the year’s end.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old Queensland native brings an impressive resume that includes a Commonwealth Games gold medal, an Olympic appearance at Tokyo 2020, and world titles in two weight classes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nicolson\u2019s professional record currently stands at 16-1, with her first major belt against Sarah Mahfoud for the WBC female featherweight title (via DAZN):<\/p>\n

Her sole loss came at the hands of undefeated Tiara Brown, who took the WBC female featherweight title from her (via DAZN):<\/p>\n

After the loss, Nicolson dropped down a weight class to super bantamweight, where she won the WBC interim female super-bantamweight title against Yulihan Luna. Her most recent performance was a successful interim title defense against Mariah Turner (via DAZN):<\/p>\n

Nicolson was promoted to undisputed status after then-champion Ellie Scotney chose to vacate the WBC super bantamweight belt.<\/p>\n

Future Fights<\/p>\n

She had previously questioned MVP’s interest in signing her, but her addition significantly bolsters the already impressive roster.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nicolson has also previously expressed interest in fighting Amanda Serrano during her featherweight campaign, and she now joins the same promotional stable that represents the Puerto Rican legend.<\/p>\n

After her August debut, Nicolson plans to pursue unification bouts and establish herself at the top of the super bantamweight division, and perhaps even eye a bout against the popular Serrano if she decides to move back up to featherweight, a division in which Serrano is the current WBA and WBO champion.<\/p>\n
