Rosie Eccles, Orlando Holley-Sotomi and Owain Harris-Allan have taken the total to four Welsh boxers guaranteed Commonwealth Games medals after a busy afternoon schedule of quarter-finals in Glasgow.<\/p>\n
They join fellow Welsh boxer Connor Williams in the semi-finals with Daniel Pitt having the chance of joining them later on Wednesday. Losing boxing semi-finallists are given bronze medals. <\/p>\n
Holley-Sotomi was the most impressive performer with a devastating first-round knockout of Lesotho’s Refiloe Thai in the men’s 70kg quarter-final.<\/p>\n
Thai was caught with a brutal right hand punch before Holley-Sotomi followed up with a left hook.<\/p>\n
Thai was left pole-axed on the floor and received medical treatment before being helped to his feet. Holley-Sotomi did not initially celebrate as he was concerned for his opponent. <\/p>\n
Eccles will collect a third Games medal after stopping Samukelisiwe Sinothile Ncube in the second round of the women’s 70kg.<\/p>\n
Eccles, who was the Team Wales flagbearer at the opening ceremony, is boxing in her last Games having won silver in Australia in 2018 and gold in Birmingham four years later.<\/p>\n
Harris-Allan, who claimed bronze four years ago, won the battle of the home nations against Scotland’s Nicholas Devlin in the men’s 60kg.<\/p>\n
Pitt takes on Paul Trainor in the men’s 80kg last eight on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n
Niamh Brookes has missed out on a medal after being defeated by Canada’s Amber-Jane Wall in the women’s 51kg quarter-final.<\/p>\n
Brookes, 24, forced two standing counts to dominate the opening round but then faded.<\/p>\n
