Most golfers know that\u00a0the more time they practice the game, the better they are likely to become. They say that practice makes perfect.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Isaak Ramsey, however, had a different concern\u00a0about his game. As a college golfer who taught himself to play competitive golf, he became interested in\u00a0how golfers can improve faster with limited practice time.<\/p>\n
That question led Ramsey to create Play Ready Golf, an app launched in March 2026 that uses motor learning research and performance data to build personalized practice plans. Today, more than 200 golfers across the country are using a tool that began through Ramsey\u2019s quest to improve.<\/p>\n
How a Self-Taught Golfer Created a Data-Driven Practice App<\/p>\n
From\u00a02018 to 2023, Ramsey played golf for Cedarville University<\/a>\u00a0while earning his undergraduate degree in marketing<\/a> and his master\u2019s degree in strategic innovation<\/a>.\u00a0Though the challenges of being self-taught\u00a0once made him feel left behind, they are now opening doors for him to aid self-taught golfers nationwide.\u00a0<\/p>\n Ramsey, originally from Peoria, Illinois, partnered with classmate Luke Petelin, a 2020 information technology management<\/a>\u00a0graduate,\u00a0to create Play Ready Golf. The app relies on motor learning research to systematically train golfers by focusing on their weak points. What began as a passion project quickly turned into a business opportunity,\u00a0allowing the Ramsey and Petelin to not only monetize the app\u00a0but also serve other golfers.\u00a0<\/p>\n What Is Play Ready Golf and How Does It Work?<\/p>\n \u201cAfter graduating, I wanted to keep playing golf, but I found that I had less time to practice,\u201d said Ramsey. \u201cTo make the most of my time, I started organizing my training methods to create a system that allowed me to target my weaknesses and progressively strengthen my skills.\u201d<\/p>\n The system is simple. Individuals with the app input statistics from their rounds, and the app generates a program based on their current abilities. While traditional methods typically focus on improving swing technique, Ramsey believes overhauling a swing is a lengthy process that offers no guarantee\u00a0of improvement. Ramsey, who didn\u2019t have a swing instructor until college,\u00a0focuses on developing skills that\u00a0produce results in a relatively short time.\u00a0<\/p>\n Why Personalized Golf Practice Plans May Improve Scores Faster<\/p>\n \u201cSwing\u00a0mechanics are incredibly important,\u201d said Ramsey,\u00a0\u201cbut when you’re balancing a family, job and other responsibilities, it is crucial to\u00a0use your practice time effectively. The highest leverage option\u00a0is practicing the skills that are going to help you achieve lower scores.\u201d<\/p>\n Golf Training App Uses Motor Learning Research To Build Skills<\/p>\n After extensive testing, Play Ready Golf officially launched for public use on March 29, 2026. Including alpha and beta testers, there are now approximately 200 golfers using Play Ready Golf. One alpha tester, who has been using the app since October 2025, has gone from a 12 handicap to a six handicap and recently broke 80 for the first time. Despite the rise of AI-powered apps, Ramsey believes his app offers a specific advantage: experience.<\/p>\n \u201cSwing mechanics are incredibly important,\u201d said Ramsey, \u201cbut when you’re balancing a family, job and other responsibilities, it is crucial to use your practice time effectively.”<\/p>\n \u201cI think there\u2019s something to be said for using a product from somebody who experienced failure and then went on to make a product to allow people to avoid those same mistakes,\u201d said Ramsey. \u201cWe\u2019re already seeing great success from those who use the app, and it\u2019s been unbelievably rewarding.\u201d<\/p>\n Much of what Ramsey\u00a0is selling comes back to accountability and implementation.
