Speaking on NRL 360, CODE Sports reporter Brent Read revealed that whispers had been circulating since the pre-season and were driven by off-field factors rather than any dissatisfaction with the Cowboys.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese rumours have been around since the pre-season. Tommy\u2019s got a partner who lives in Sydney. She\u2019s now pregnant,\u201d Read said.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s from and lives in Sydney, but I believe she\u2019s moving up there now since she\u2019s pregnant and there\u2019s been some talk that there\u2019s been some interest (in Tommy) and Tommy leaving the Cowboys. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe Cowboys have denied this several times. There were rumours that his management met the club to talk about potentially leaving if his partner can\u2019t settle into Townsville.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy understanding is that it\u2019s been spoken about (but) the club has denied that it\u2019s going to happen or that it will happen.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a couple of factors to play. One, it\u2019s going to depend on how his partner settles into Townsville. The other is that he is on so much money (at the moment).\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the speculation, NRL great Gorden Tallis argued that Dearden\u2019s partner should support the Cowboys captain in seeing out his contract, believing the halfback should and his role as a club\u2019s marquee player should remain the priority.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s a decision for footy. I think it\u2019s a decision for a relationship and his partner,\u201d Tallis said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is going to be difficult territory, but she\u2019s got to support him through his contract. <\/p>\n
\u201cThey can live for 50 years in whatever suburb. This is his time to shine and in North Queensland it\u2019s not a bad place to bring up kids. It\u2019s beautiful. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s the marquee player there. You can always fly home to see your family. It\u2019s a passionate region.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, if he ended up leaving the Cowboys and moving to Sydney, the Queensland Maroons representative would become the most sought-after player on the market.<\/p>\n
It is understood that just about every rival club would line up for his signature due to his leadership, skills and potential, making him an attractive target.<\/p>\n
