The Detroit Tigers are calling up outfielder Max Clark ahead of this weekend’s road series against the Athletics, a team source told The Athletic on Thursday.

Clark, one of baseball’s most dynamic prospects, is the 13th-ranked prospect on Keith Law’s recent rankings for The Athletic, released last week.

News of the promotion, confirmed by a team source who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, was first reported by Emily Waldon, a prospects writer for Baseball America.

Once the No. 3 pick in the 2023 draft, Clark is a speedy outfielder known for smart swing decisions. With his chains, tattoos and outgoing personality, he is also one of baseball’s most recognizable young players. Clark has 436,000 followers on Instagram and became an online sensation long before turning pro.

Clark was drafted in the same class as Tigers’ Rookie of the Year candidate Kevin McGonigle.

“He’s the Chase Utley, and I’m the Bryce Harper,” Clark said in spring training. “That’s what everybody is kind of drawn to. Obviously, we’re not those players yet, but that’s who we look up to.”

Clark endured a difficult spring training, going 2-for-18 and making multiple mistakes in the field. After he was cut from big-league camp, he got a new tattoo that read: “Every fall is a chance to rise.”

Clark has been through his share of ups and downs this year in Triple-A Toledo. He hit only .232 in May and, at times, struggled to lift the ball and hit for power. In recent weeks, though, Clark has rounded into form. He was hitting .338 with a 1.038 OPS in the minor leagues in July.

The Tigers have yet to announce a corresponding move, but outfielder Matt Vierling left Wednesday’s game with a groin injury and could be going to the injured list. Meanwhile, outfielder James Outman is hitting only .167.

The Tigers’ roster is in deep flux ahead of Monday’s trade deadline, and the baseball world is waiting to see whether the Tigers will move Tarik Skubal.

For now, Clark is the one making news for the Tigers.

The Detroit Tigers are calling up outfielder Max Clark ahead of this weekend’s road series against the Athletics,…

[558
64,63,5260,591,85
post-833733","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-mlb","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-detroit-tigers","tag-mlb","tag-sports
["GET
