Chilling diary entries and a harrowing six-minute 911 call have laid bare the tragic final moments before Massachusetts mother Lindsay Clancy allegedly strangled her three young children to death with exercise bands.<\/p>\n
The second day of the murder trial for the 35-year-old former nurse \u2013 dubbed by many as \u201cAmerica\u2019s saddest trial\u201d \u2013 brought a series of heartbreaking revelations to the courtroom as prosecutors and the defence presented conflicting pictures of her mental state.<\/p>\n

Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon following the January 2023 deaths of her children, Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan.<\/p>\n
While her defence team does not dispute that she killed the children, they argue she is not criminally responsible due to severe post-partum psychosis exacerbated by a dangerous cocktail of 15 psychiatric medications.<\/p>\n
If convicted on the murder charges, the mother of three faces life in prison without parole.<\/p>\n
Distressing 911 call played to court<\/p>\n
The courtroom fell silent as the jury was played the raw six-minute 911 recording made when Clancy\u2019s then-husband, Patrick Clancy, returned home to find the horrific scene.<\/p>\n
Sobbing loudly from the defence table, Lindsay Clancy had to be taken out of the courtroom with her face in her hands after the judge called a break.<\/p>\n
Journalists covering the trial live described the recording as one of the most agonising pieces of evidence ever heard in a courtroom.<\/p>\n
Reporters said Patrick\u2019s screams of pure agony were heard through the gallery as he found his three children strangled in the family\u2019s basement.<\/p>\n

The court heard Patrick initially called 911 thinking his wife had fallen, and found her lying bloodied in the backyard beneath a second-storey window.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhere are the kids, Lindsay?\u201d Patrick could be heard asking her on the call before running inside to check the house.<\/p>\n
\u201cDid you fall out of the window, Linds? Did you fall? Is there something on your neck, Lindsay?\u201d<\/p>\n
Seconds later, his frantic screams echoed down the phone as he yelled to dispatchers that he needed immediate help in the basement because his wife had \u201ckilled the kids\u201d.<\/p>\n
Father recalls gutting basement discovery<\/p>\n
Taking the stand, Patrick Clancy delivered quiet, heartbreaking testimony detailing the exact moment he walked into the basement and found his children unresponsive.<\/p>\n
He testified that he first spotted Cora, 5, lying face down, then noticed eight-month-old Callan and Dawson, 3, in the basement office.<\/p>\n
Patrick told the jury he desperately tried to perform CPR on Cora but instantly knew in his heart that little Dawson was already gone.<\/p>\n
He explained that Lindsay had sent him out on a quick errand to pick up children\u2019s medicine and takeaway food before the tragedy.<\/p>\n
When he returned and saw blood smeared across their bedroom, he ran outside to find Lindsay face-up on the grass. She admitted she had tried to end her life and directed him to the basement.<\/p>\n
Lindsay is now permanently paralysed from the waist down as a result of the attempt to take her life. <\/p>\n
Diary reveals struggle with intrusive thoughts<\/p>\n
To support their claim of a severe mental breakdown, the defence entered a detailed health log Clancy kept while taking her prescribed medications.<\/p>\n
The diary recorded her daily dosages alongside her deteriorating mental state, documenting severe depression and intrusive thoughts in the weeks leading up to the tragedy.<\/p>\n
In a December 8, 2022, entry, she noted taking 5 mg of Valium and 75 mg of Seroquel, writing that she woke up \u201cfeeling very depressed\u201d with \u201cintrusive thoughts\u201d.<\/p>\n
Another entry the very next day showed an increased dose of Seroquel and a note that she was experiencing \u201chorrible intrusive thoughts\u201d.<\/p>\n
Her defence highlighted that Clancy had been treated by five doctors and prescribed 15 psychiatric medications over a three-month period, including two hospital stays for her mental health.<\/p>\n
Chilling voice allegedly commanded the killings<\/p>\n
Patrick also testified about a phone call with Lindsay a week after the killings, revealing a chilling detail about her state of mind during the attack.<\/p>\n
He told the jury she did not speak about the children during the call, but instead described hearing a man\u2019s voice in her head before the killings telling her it was her only chance to act.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe said she heard a man\u2019s voice telling her that if she didn\u2019t do it now, she would lose her chance,\u201d Patrick recounted to the court.<\/p>\n
Despite the tragedy, Patrick \u2013 who has since divorced Lindsay, remarried, and welcomed a new baby \u2013 has maintained that his former wife was \u201cnot a monster\u201d but \u201csomeone who
