2026: Anthony Seibold to be an assistant coach at the PNG Chiefs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Papua New Guinea Chiefs have locked in another key piece of the puzzle for their inaugural season with experienced head coach Anthony Seibold signing on as an assistant.<\/p>\n<p>Seibold joins Luke Burt as assistant coaches to Willie Peters, who has already secured several stars for 2028, with Jarome Luai, Zac Lomax and Connor Watson just some of the names to have committed to the franchise.<\/p>\n<p>For Seibold, this is a shot at redemption after he was sacked by the Sea Eagles just three games into the current season following three consecutive losses at home. <\/p>\n<p>He has a wealth of experience having coached at South Sydney, Brisbane and Manly, while he\u2019s also worked in different sports around the world. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to working with Willie Peters and supporting the vision that this club has,\u201d Seibold said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Chiefs are building something special with strong values and great people, and I\u2019m excited to play my part in helping them succeed. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe chance to make a positive impact on players, staff and the wider community was a big reason I wanted to join the Chiefs. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuccess on the field is important, but building something that inspires people across Papua New Guinea is just as meaningful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chiefs general manager of football Michael Chammas spoke glowingly of the appointment, which will help Peters enormously as he navigates the challenges of trying to lead a new team. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re really excited about Anthony joining our coaching staff and believe that he will add a great deal to the playing group and football department as a whole,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis experience in numerous roles across rugby league is a great benefit to us, and his time as a head coach in particular will help him be a trusted adviser to Willie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will also complement the attributes that Luke brings as an assistant coach, and we believe they will work extremely well together alongside the rest of our football staff. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving just spent time in PNG recently, Anthony is tremendously excited about the opportunity that lies ahead for the Chiefs and Papua New Guinea as a country, and his appointment is another great addition for our club. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking forward to welcoming him and his family to our Chiefs family in November 2027 as we continue to build strong foundations for our
