A first home buyer has revealed the clever way he intends to save hundreds if not thousands of dollars on big-ticket items for his new home in Melbourne this Afterpay Day.<\/a><\/p>\n

Carl Hemberg, 31, recently settled on his first home in Flemington and he has been holding off on purchasing much for it, including the much-sought-after Samsung Frame TV, until Afterpay Day.<\/a><\/p>\n

His move comes as data shows that 45 per cent of Aussies (rising to 61 per cent of higher spenders) wait for discounts before buying big-ticket items.<\/p>\n

\u201cI moved into my first home in Flemington with my partner at the start of July, so we\u2019re still very much in that phase where every week we realise there\u2019s something else we need,\u201d Carl tells 7You.<\/p>\n

\u201cBuying a home was a huge milestone, and there are ongoing costs that continue to add up after you get the keys.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Carl has spent the first month prioritising what he calls the \u201cmundane but necessary adult purchases\u201d like a fridge or vacuum, he plans to use Afterpay Day to buy some of the more fun big-ticket items he wants.<\/p>\n

So what has the 31-year-old got his eye on?<\/p>\n

\u201cThe big one for me is a Samsung Frame TV<\/a>. I\u2019ve had my eye on it for months and have deliberately waited for the sales before pulling the trigger,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter a long day at work, I love coming home to a space where I can just chill out and switch off. I love being able to watch a good show or catch the Brissie Lions next game live. It is also great for when we have friends over to have Spotify up \u2014 so I\u2019m really missing having one in our home!\u201d<\/p>\n

Carl adds: \u201cWe are also putting a fair bit of effort into making our home feel like us, so we love that it will be able to have rotating art displays of our choice \u2014 helps us cut costs on needing to purchase more art for the space!<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also love the teak\/wooden frame as it matches our aesthetic versus a standard black TV.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carl also has his eye on a few entertaining pieces, like a drinks bar cart, as well as a floor lamp from Beacon Lighting and cookware set from Myer.<\/p>\n

He wants a new Daisy Dog Bed for his dog, Morty, and will also have his eye out for Christmas presents for friends and family.<\/p>\n

Carl and his partner say they have been talking about the Afterpay Day sale for months, even before they bought the new house, because they knew there were so many things they\u2019d want to order.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve already started making a list of items to keep an eye on and tracking prices across different retailers so I know when I\u2019m getting a good deal,\u201d Carl admits.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a longtime Afterpay user, I find the app really handy for keeping track of my payments and staying on top of my spending, so I never feel stressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of my mates are hoping to save things like travel and concert tickets, but right now my focus is getting our home set up and making it a comfortable space to enjoy.\u201d<\/p>\n

What is Afterpay Day?<\/p>\n

Afterpay Day<\/a> in Australia is a major biannual four-day retail sales event held in March and August.<\/p>\n

The upcoming August event runs from August 13 to August 16, 2026, offering discounts typically ranging from 20% to 70% across fashion, beauty, sportswear, and homewares.<\/p>\n

Each Afterpay Day, more than a million eager Aussies and Kiwis show up to score a deal.<\/p>\n
