Pearl Studio (formerly DreamWorks Oriental) and CMC Pictures\u2019 All Wishes Come True! earned $43.8 million over the weekend, climbing to first place in its second frame and good enough for second place worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>The fantasy comedy has now grossed $109.5 million after nine days of release, including previews. It displaced Stephen Chow\u2019s live-action Kung Fu Soccer in the country\u2019s top spot.<\/p>\n<p>Written and directed by Mu Zhengyang, All Wishes Come True! reimagines the Eight Immortals of Chinese mythology as a group of mortals planning to rob the gods. The film is Pearl\u2019s first major theatrical release since 2020\u2019s Oscar-nominated Over the Moon and will begin an unusually wide, for a Chinese animated feature, international rollout next month.<\/p>\n<p>Its success is the latest evidence that animation is now a central part of China\u2019s theatrical business. Animated films <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cartoonbrew.com\/box-office-report\/animation-boom-fuels-chinas-2025-box-office-boom-257885.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">accounted<\/a> for nearly half of the country\u2019s box office revenue in 2025, led by the $2.2 billion phenomenon Ne Zha 2. Shanghai Animation Film Studio\u2019s hand-drawn Nobody also earned $215.3 million, a 2D record in the country, while Zootopia 2 became China\u2019s highest-grossing imported animated feature ever.<\/p>\n<p>Those films varied considerably in style and origin, but their performances point to an audience increasingly willing to treat animation as event cinema, especially if its based on local mythology and history.
