Charley Hull is never one to back down on the golf course, and she’s not doing it off the course either as she told critics of her caddie<\/a> prank to “lighten up” at the AIG Women’s Open.<\/p>\n

Hull revealed before the Women’s Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes that she pranked caddie Adam Woodward with a fake scratchcard<\/a> – making him believe he’d won \u00a3100,000 ($135,000) and filming the entire thing.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old has come in for some criticism for the prank, with plenty of talk on social media and with Dame Laura Davies calling it “extremely cruel” on the TV broadcast.<\/p>\n

Hull, though, refused to apologise for her prank, and in typical Hull style said: “If people don’t like it they can lump it.”<\/p>\n

Hull, who shot 70 in her opening round at Royal Lytham as she chases her maiden Major title, says she hasn’t seen any online comments.<\/p>\n

“I don’t have any social media on my phone,” she said, while adding that she would “100 percent” do it again.<\/p>\n

“He thought it was funny after,” she said of Woodward’s reaction. “He’s not uptight. Like it’s a joke. If people don’t like it they can lump it, do you know what I mean?<\/p>\n

“And people that have complaints about it, I would say loosen up.<\/p>\n

“I felt bad for Adsy, but at the end of the day I’ve just got to have a good week, and at the end of the week I’ll buy him 100 scratchcards.<\/p>\n

“Hopefully he can earn more money than that as well this week if we play well.”<\/p>\n

Hull says that she distances herself from social media during tournaments, so hasn’t heard any outside noise while she concentrates on the job at hand.<\/p>\n

That’s a sound tactic these days with social media as it is, and with far more pressing matters such as searching for that elusive Major breakthrough.<\/p>\n

This week, though, it has the added bonus of not being aware of all the negative reaction to her pranking of her caddie – although she believes she’s done nothing wrong.<\/p>\n

“I don’t really have my social media on my phone on tournament weeks,” Hull added. “So I delete it and when I go home I’ll add it again. I don’t really like people seeing me and tagging me and stuff. I like to keep in the present moment.<\/p>\n

“But, yeah, I think people need to lighten up if they’re taking that too seriously because it was pretty funny.”<\/p>\n

Hull’s response is no surprise, she’s one of the biggest characters in the women’s game and has always done things her own way – so some negative comments over a prank were hardly going to ruffle her feathers.<\/p>\n
