{"id":836914,"date":"2026-08-01T02:39:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-01T02:39:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/836914\/"},"modified":"2026-08-01T02:39:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-01T02:39:12","slug":"supercars-perth-declan-fraser-shows-form-as-premiair-racing-contract-talks-intensifies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/836914\/","title":{"rendered":"Supercars Perth: Declan Fraser shows form as PremiAir Racing contract talks intensifies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">YOU don\u2019t need to tell <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-2633-Declan-Fraser\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Declan Fraser<\/a> that it was only Friday practice, but the 2022 Super2 champion\u2019s promising Perth form couldn\u2019t have come at a better time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fraser was second-fastest in the opening session of the weekend, bested only by his PremiAir Racing teammate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-1544-Jayden-Ojeda\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jayden Ojeda<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He backed that up to rank sixth in final practice, making him the fastest non-Ford driver from the 25-minute hitout.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m not hanging my hat on anything this early in the weekend, but it\u2019s a step in the direction we want to go,\u201d the 25-year-old told V8 Sleuth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pressure has been intensifying on the #777 pilot, who has been outshone by Ojeda and is yet to be signed for 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s even been murmurs of a possible mid-season exit, which have been quashed by team principal Roland Dane.<\/p>\n<p>The Undercut \u2013 Who will make the cut?<\/p>\n<p>THE Undercut is back for another week, breaking down the latest news in the world of Supercars racing!<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The key for Fraser has been to build on a recent rookie test at Ipswich.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is just practice but I\u2019m happy that the progress we made on the test day, I can translate straight over,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe were able to think about things a lot slower. Whereas not having the testing throughout the year and then you get to a round and it\u2019s like bang, bang, bang, bang \u2013 you\u2019re trying to learn as much as possible in a very short period of time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBeing able to slow everything down and talk to my engineer (Simon Hodge) really helped, and then coming here I was able to tell him \u2018no I don\u2019t want that, I want this\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSo just having that communication with Hodgey, we learnt a lot in our communication skills to each other, and I feel like it\u2019s helped a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/777-Fraser-EV05-26-KB1_5556-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-257601\"  \/>Declan Fraser with engineer Simon Hodge. Pic: Supplied\/Kass Brumley<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for the outside noise?<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI have just got to do a good job,\u201d Fraser responded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI can only control what I can control. I go out there every time and I try my best.
